Hi All,

I have a W210 E 240 (petrol). Although in excelent condition I thought it would be wise to get a code reader as I usually do my own servising and repairs. I bought a Multiplex unit (carsoft 7.4). Problem is when I run the diagnostic check all I get is a message saying " Module is not fitted or not responding". I have tried both the OBD and 38 pin options,
Anyone have any idea what may be wrong?
Thanks in advance,
R.

Hi

I suspect somethings not configured on the Carsoft - suggest you talk to them for support.

But, before you do that, theres +12v and switched 12v on both connectors, check the fuse for them has not blown

Thanks, Maybe I should have said the multiplex code reader I have is not one manufactured by carsoft but one I got indirectly through e-bay.

The 38 pin connector is the best bet for Carsoft 7.4.....haven't heard of anyone having much success with the OBD11 connector & Carsoft 7.4

As Richard suggested.....check 12V supply.......the interface gets its power supply from the 38 pin connector.....is there a LED 12V indicator on the I/F?

These interfaces do not work well through a Serial/USB converter......try with RS232 if you have been using an adapter...........

Year can be important.....doesn't work with anything after about 2003 (depends a bit on country.....but UK models seem to be similar to those here in Australia)....uses K-Line communication with modules rather than CAN Bus..........

Cheers

Hi, I presume the car is the later model with the digital interface. Choose the 38 pin Interface option and Digital Test. Then just the ME. This should only check pin 4 and save a lot of time as Carsoft checks all lines if you select Complete. Pin1 is ground, Pin2 ignition Pin3 battery. (pin 2 may not be connected in the plug) If the multipex unit has two LEDs Red should be on and yellow for data. As someone posted - check you have the right COM and try to avoid USB/COM gadgets. Ignition must be on - I use a low output charger to keep the battery voltage up.
I hope the multiplex is Carsoft compatable!
I only have the single input interface and a 24 way switch but it works on a 2000 CLK.
Good luck

Just one more thought. If you are using a Thinkpad the infared grabs the COM port. Disable InfaRed in Thinkpad Configuration and enable Serial port. Serial port settings 9600 8-0-1 None. Advanced COM1.
