Help with W163 MCS!

Hi all,
First post in these forums! (i normally use MBWorld)

i have been offered a mercedes command satnav and a CD changer from a 2000 W163 in USA (I live in UK) for 550 us dollars plus shipping. (pictured below)

he has assured me it will work in my ml, an '02 320.

just wanted any advice on wether i should continue my interest in purchasing both the cd changer and the MCS. i thought the price would be good due to the currency at the moment.

Is it worth buying or is there a newer model i should be looking at instead?

Dont buy it. MCS is not comand, and the UK mapdisks wont work. CD changer will work most likely though.

That would be 'Alfie'....who by the way just quoted me for a Comand for my ML350... = good man!!

The MCS comes in two parts. The main display unit and then the internal navigation drive for several thousand dollars. The MCS can be opened up and navigation enabled.

THe disks that it MAY take would be the same in the Alfa Romeo and is based on the Siemens system. It is highly unlikely that it would work in the UK as it is entirely content related. For that price it is unlikely to have the map reader installed.

Bear in mind also that the radio will not play AM or show RDS with FM. The only interesting feature is the DVD player.

To echo what others have said, dont buy it!

If you want comand, then get the correct one for your car.

Thanks all for the feedback, saved me from making a big mistake.
Nice of the seller not to tell me these things...

anyway im still looking for satnav for the ML so i'll take a look at comand.co.uk

btw: could anyone give me a rough estimate on the price it would cost to get one of these comand units installed?

On flea bay as a guide there are people selling units including fitting from £600 to £800 I havn't read the adverts so don't know what this includes. Think the CD player would be extra.
