Talking to my very good friend at the best MB bodyshop in Scotland, he was telling me of one of his customers with a CL55AMG with 190k on it which does not miss a beat. Only problem he's ever had is with the pulley. Guy says he changes the oil every 6k and uses it every day. I have a 99T CLK208 320 sport (AMG kit and wheels) with 175k on it. Same gearbox etc. Never needed anything but a mass flow meter and a couple of water pumps. Again regular oil changes in this car also. Sorry I have had it painted 3 times arghh!!!. Great mechanicals but as we all know they just love to rust.
Talking of high mileage, there was a 190e 2.0 auto, with a full cosworth kit on it (now an A6) where I stay which was a taxi and had 640k on it. The guy had won many high mileage awards for it. He took me to the airport many times in it and you simply would never believe it.

I think people need to remember that mileage doesn't directly correlate with wear.

Number of cold starts, hours of usage, types of road surfaces and driving style have more to do with how the mechanical bits hold up.

I like clean oil as much as most people but really we don't get many worn out engines anymore due to oil lubrication issues. When I stripped the last 2.5-16 with 150k on it the bottom end was like new. Didn't burn a drop of oil and had compression that was completely even and up to spec. You could see all the honing marks still.

MBs biggest problems of recent times is flakey electronics and flakey paint IMHO.

And probably of greater importance would be looking to change ATF once in a while, not just OCD engine oil changes ;)

IMHO :)

And I've seen a 208 CLK55 with 300k miles. There's a link on the forum somewhere.

That's a lot of petrol!! :o

Hi Will. Off course the ATF is done regularly too alongside all other normal servicing. The 300k CLK55 sounds awesome.
