Ordered a hire car through work and went to pick up the keys this morning. All that was on the Vauxhall key ring was the reg no. So I went out to the car park and pressed unlock on the fob.....1.2 Corsa to drive nearly 500 miles in. This thing is so slow its unreal. Looking forward to driving back in a transit connect tomorrow.

Oh I don't know... there's nothing faster on the planet than a rental car.

I had a 1.6 Pug 508 once from Enterprise. I reckon that could complete in slowness stakes.

I've got a Pug 308 hire car at the moment and it must be the worst car ever. Over sharp steering, over sharp brakes, atrocious driving position and very hard to judge the car's width.

I thought that but, I had to change into 4th on the motor way as I was going up a hill and in 5th and I was going slower and slower until a coach went passed me.

What really annoyed me was stopping to refill the tank after 400 miles and the fuel card being declined.

I can sympathise with you - I had a base model Astra in Spain 2 weeks ago. Very underpowered and with only 5 gears but then going from an E320CDI and an SL500 to that is a bit of a contrast. My son-in-law had a Turbo model which had much more power and 6 gears giving him much better fuel consumption as well - I just couldn't keep up with him. Glad to hand it back at the end of the 2 weeks

I've also just picked up a 308 hire car and agree with all of this, but I am glad of the car as I booked a Focus which would have been far less practical, and was randomly 'upgraded'. On holiday I think you have to take the motoring compromises and coming back to your own car is something to look forward to.

Quite looking forward to having a go in the fiat 500 we have hired for the nanny though!

You don't know slow unless you've driven something like a 190 or 200D , be it W110 , W115 or W123 .

You'll love the Transit Connect. A fine vehicle.
