Household product to remove wax from windscreen...??

So I tied Meths first, I didn't partition the screen to try anything else, just hit it with Meths straight out of the bottle and slid the cloth up and down the blade a few times for good measure.

It works a treat - in fact it's my new favourite wonder chemical! The screen is as clear as it has ever been. :) :)

Thanks to everyone who helped, be nice to try some of the other suggestions next time it happens.

Cut a potato in half and rub the screen with the cut ends. Trust me this is the the best remedy known to man and its natural and works. Obviously you need to rinse the screen afterwards.

That takes me back a bit. Used that trick on my Biggles goggles when I were but a nipper riding motor bikes. Never rinsed it off though, the rain did that.

:D:D:D:D

Fixed that for you Bruce.

My neighbour used it (after much doubting) to remove rainex. Now swears by it. Learned from my grandfather.

A little bit off topic but still relevant, some glass cleaners contain waxy gunk that leaves the screen smeary. My car was serviced just before Christmas and the car was valeted. Boxing Day night I get in the car to do a 100 mile drive in the wet on a lot of unlit roads. It was a total nightmare! Still trying to get it off the inside of the screen, I was out there with some fairy liquid a couple of days ago. I'm going to Toolstation today for something else, will pick up some meths, a good tip that! thanks

Keep a little in the boot, I am, together with a clean cloth, could be a life saver...

Bar Keeper's Friend is the best way of getting rid of film on the windscreen. However, it does contain a bit of oxalic acid so should be hosed down thoroughly afterwards.

I personally use JUST crumbled up old newspaper and elbow grease both my children thought I was daft when they moaned they could not get their windscreen clean, so I told them to clean it, then I re cleaned with newspaper and guess what now they use the same method

I've never had any reason to use anything other than Autoglym Car Glass Polish - if you use too much it gets quite "powdery" but I'd have thought that was good for absorbing wax etc. Clean the wiper rubbers too.

I use old (stolen :) ) tea-towels washed without fabric conditioner.

Defo Neat fairy liquid, and a light scubber and and pure cotton cloth to clean the soappy mess, along with elbow grease .. im a full time valeter, and works a treat.

Tip

If and when using the product of your choice for the inside of the windscreen make sure to cover/protect the steering wheel and dash......the leather/plastic may react badly to your choice of product if dripped upon.
