Sounds like a really stupid question I know, but just went outside to change the air filters on my W211 E320cdi and the box looked like it was screwed together on each corner, and looked a pretty tight fit down there too.

To be fair I should probably not be doing it in the dark and probably missed something obvious like a catch somewhere? Have I??

I take it you are referring to the engine air filter and not the cabin air filter?

The airbox has a lid, which as far as I remember, clips onto the main airbox moulding. You have to unclip this and lift the lid. The cylindrical air filter element pulls slightly up from the back and then backwards and up and out.

I have a MY2007 e320cdi, with twin air filters on it, and I just couldn't see any clips at all.

I downloaded the fitting instructions from K&N, however, the instructions are not the best.....

Open the stock airboxes.
Place K&N® air filter 33-2913 into the passenger airbox (Fig. 1). Place K&N® air filter 33-2938
into the driver side airbox (Fig. 2).

:D Thanks for that!! I was going to open the packet and throw them out of the window, good job I read the instructions first!!!

Still not got round to doing this, and still none the wiser.

Is the airbox just sitting on pins?

Do I just pull the whole thing up and away??

Obviously I will undo the hose clips first. ;)

Hi Gizze

I have changed my air filters on similar 2007 cdi 320 V6, at first I got confused, but then succeeed.

So,start with taking off the engine cover,by first lifting the rear corners and then the front ones, don`t worry it will not break.
Then go for the right filter ( driver`s side) undo the jubbile clip on the rubber hose
which is connected to the air filter box ( not the intake one,it is the outlet and is situated on top of the engine) now wacth for a couple of bolts ( 8mm-10mm head)
which hold the complete air filter box to the engine, they are located one on each side of the filter box,you will need a female torque socket and extention fixed to a rachet or similar tool.Once you undo these bolts, you will notice that the air filter box is loose enough to move it , pull it out from the rubber hose ( the one you have taken, off the jubbile clip already) then with your left hand hold the box and with the right hand pull out the plastic oval pipe, which is fixed to the air box at the front, don`t be afraid this will come out, while pulling it do an up and down movement.
Now you can remove the air filter box out from the engine bay, put it on bench remove the screws on the lid of the box and you can pull out the old filter.
Re-assembling is the reverse procedure, remember to clean the air box from the
inside before re-assemble.
The air filter box on the other side is the same proceedure, only the size of the box
and inside filter are a bit smaller, I told you to start with the one on the driver`s side, because it is easier to explain,to you, the passengers side is still easy, you will know all the tricks once you have the first one done.

Regards
Lupi

P.S. Yes the air filter box has 2 pins underneath, but first you have to undo
the bolts at the sides of the air box, then you can start thinking to pull it out
from the pins.

Sorry for that.
