This subject has probably been asked before, but I can't find it.
Could you give me some idea as to the cost of a trans oil change.
Reading through a lot of posts, it looks like most of you would't recomend getting the job done at your local garages, but only a Merc dealer.
I generally use a great local garage( and they are honest), but I'm reading these boxes can be problematic.
By the way it's a 2005 CLK 320 auto.

Well, the oil change will cost around 300 USD (10 qtz aprox, filter, gaskets). In a DIY youll have to buy the dipstick too.
I think its ok to change it after 80,000 kms.

Don't see why a competent garage can't do it, so long as they have the proper dipstick, otherwise go to a specailist.

I charge £180 all in.

Thanks for the replies. I was a bit concerned when I read about pre-heating the oil.

Your prices on here are mad,my tech does 7G boxes oil change and filter for £90 all in. He's fully qualified working for Merc dealer for 9years but does these as a side job so if you are in Scotland and need it done PM me.

He's not that kind of guy he's very honest and fair and has MANY customers that go to him coz he's fair with his prices. He's usually booked up a week and a half. He has the star software on his laptop and iv seen him do my car and others,it takes him less than 15mins once he plugs it in and it reads the faults etc so I baffles me how people on here charge £90+ for a DIAGNOSTIC! Ripoff and even HE AGREES!

Maybe it's coz he has no overhead expenses or wages to pay coz he uses his dad's garage/ramp which is at his dad's house, but in no way does he steal from anyone,if anything I think he uses his dad's discounts when buying parts coz his dad is a mechanic too!

The indie I use buys ATF in 205 litre barrels. Costs a fraction of what MB (or anyone else) charges by the litre.

He does the normal boxes 5 speeds etc for £50 coz I had a C220 W203 before and he done it for that,I saw him do it coz I had to wait for the car so I know what I'm talking about. We need to put a STOP to rip offs in this country. If you price yourself well then you tend to find people ALWAYS come back to you and never short of work and make a profit too!

...and I know he's making a profit coz he just bought himself a ML320 2009 AMG body kit etc upgrade from his old vauxhaul insignia. This guy is only 27years old by the way! Now you tell me????

The price difference between him and most other garages , including respected members on here is huge. He needs to put his prices up.
Reminds me of a well respected roofer round these parts, his quotes are around half of everybody else's, he works 6 days a week and doesn't even own his own car, has to use the tranny van, working for nothing  CRAZY

Ya I see what you mean but the guy has just bought an ML320 though not new but only 30k on the clock upgrade from an insignia. Ya he works 6days long ones at that but it's obviously working for him. See once he puts the prices up he will lose all the customers he's gained over the last 2 yrs since he started doing the homers! I guess maybe if he opened his own garaged he'd be forced to up them but for now whilst he's no expenses, single and no children all he makes goes straight to his pocket....TAX FREE!

Still can't justify £90+ for a diagnostic that takes about 15mins,iv seen him do it. He plugs it in chooses the model presses a few F1 etc keys things scans the car and you hear revs rise a bit and a few ticks later you see what's passed or failed, press the F1 key again and BOOM it's reels you where the fault lies! Very effortless! £90+ IS INSANE TRUST ME!

Well if your claim that he is making the money tax free and without significant overheads is accurate then it would explain his lower prices, also, well done for advertising that he may be working without paying tax, I am sure he will appreciate that being put on a public forum!

Maybe he's building up a client base with a view to going on his own full time sometime in the future. I still think he could add 30 quid to the tranny fluid change and still not lose any business.
