How much to fix this 2006 CLK?

Seems like a quite a bit of work to put it back in one

A pair of cant rails and a good welder would have that done and dusted in a day or two.

Only real nause is the savage way the fire brigade hacks off roofs.

Perhaps all for the chance of a quick whiplash claim too?

Nice spec car though.

Also want to know why only 2800 miles on an 06 plate car..... seems low.

It will have been in storage forever while the claim was argued over.

Claims managment companies love to string out a claim, loads of storage and car hire fees....

Plus you can imagine the complexity of a claim the roof of a car is lopped off by the fire brigade.

Just remind yourself of this car next time someone posts a link to a car that has had 'minor Cat D' damage and is being sold on after being repaired. That's the problem with buying write offs, you have to be sure you know how bad the damage was. This one should never be a Cat D

The CLK has about £50 of fuel in it. Bargain @ £9k

Would have guessed all its good for is breaking

(engine + g/box) COMAND etc

i sent him a message to his new auction

Dear innov8_int,

this is a joke right? how can this possibly be a cat d????this car is only
fit for spares

his reply

Dear mikeouk,

If that was the case, the insurance company would categorise it as a cat B
! The parts required for the roof posts come to a total of £3k from the
main dealer.

do mercedes actualy list roof pillars as a part? surely they would only sell a full shell?

the roof is the integral part of the car. I remember watching that Turbo Discovery Channel a couple of years ago (salvage makeover) with that Dominique guy as the host.

If the pillar is cut,the car will no longer be fit as it will not be safe.As the roof is part of the chassis.

Your man's talking nonsense, if you fit a rear qtr you end up cutting into the post, same goes for an a post at the front (all parts mercedes sell), if you cut and shut a short back end onto a car the rear post is where you join it etc.

While it looks messy, properly repaired I can't see any safety issues, but it's like everything, if someone does a botch job it won't be much of a car...

He's also selling a Clio.

With a faulty speedo. But he can supply an MOT for an additional £50.00 ??

Yes true, it should be aligned using specialist equipment and they did that to a Toyota Celica which had the A pillar severely damaged, not cut.#

It needs VIC to be legal again. It could weaken the chassis if not properly repaired is what I should say.

Cheers

Throw the roof away and use the rest as a skip. Thats all it's good for, death trap!

I guess thats a prime car for a dodgy geezer type mob, buy that for 9k (joke price), and go and steal another and just swap the ID over:(

Not as a Cat D it doesn't, only Cat C requires a VIC check.

As Nick says if it has new rails and roof it will be good to go.
Parts required: http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.as...GM=716.649&CT=F&cat=69M&SID=63&SGR=015&SGN=01

The mechanicals could fetch £8-£10k if broken.

It's hard to see why the roof was cut off, crash damage looks minimal.

Although the damage looks minimal there may have been a rear passenger with suspected back injuries, thats all I can imgine it being.
