Hi Guys,

Trouble using Park Assist? Cant get your head around how it works and what the P symbol means on the dashboard?

Thanks!

I used it the other week and had to stop it quickly as it started to mount the footpath.

Its weird, mine does it perfect 9/10 times, however I have a mate who's Girlfriend has a GLA and each time it totally messes it up.

The P symbol means it's found a parking space (or thinks it has) stopping and putting it into reverse at this point will activate Park Assist.
Even if you are bad at parking it's quicker to do it yourself.

Hi mate, really good video :) I did wonder what the random blue p was that kept appearing on the dial display!

will give it a go once lockdown is over lol

I can't seem to get mine to work on parking bays
Mine is very picky on parking bays. It will pick them up but only if there are not two or three empty bays next to each other which it then tries to parallel park in.

Did you not watch video? :D

Most commonly missed part is the putting it into reverse it appears...

Recently the "P" icon on the dash has started to stay on up to 30-33 Kph. What could be causing this? There has not been any bumper shunts ( that I'm aware of ) or any other events either.

Watch the video (or read the handbook). The P appears when Park Assist could operate.

The white arrow indicates when it has detected a space that you would fit in and that's when you can actually activate it.

I use it occasionally, but the white arrow is very useful to show that the car will fit, even if you then do the manoeuvre yourself.

Thank for your reply, I understand that, and before it used to activate once the speed dropped to 15 kph, and switched off at speeds above it. But now, while it still activates when the speed drops to 15kph, it remains on up to a speed of 30-35. Does anyone else have this?

Mine indicates on the central screen when it’s found a space, but to get it to park in it you have to accept the space using the command controller thingy then put it in reverse. It’ll reverse, steer, brake, change gear and go forwards again all by itself from that point, and will shuffle back an forwards quite a bit if the space is tight. Always parks it parallel to the kerb, and also aligns itself to the car behind not in front when parking. Last week it happily got itself into this space:

And as you can see it’s parked closer to the Toyota behind than the W212 E63 in front...

Well, I can imagine that the Toyota driver might be a little annoyed if another MB was also to park itself in front! How would he/she get out?

Nice colour cabriolet.

Yes, it’s not as considerate as it could be in centring itself in the space, but I’ve seen far worse parking ☺️ It’s rubellite red by the way - and I love it!

I don't like how it twizzles your wheels whilst stationary potentially causing flat spots. However my biggest issue is that it de-skills you as a driver lol :p
