How to build a Renault Modus.

I have always wanted to watch a car being built and that video was very enlightening. After the robots have finished their jobs (with such precision as well) are the rest of the components then installed by humans? I dare say for the BM's here, watching a Mercedes carefully assembled would hold more relevance and appreciation for the finished article. Many moons ago a friend of mine -- he is over 80 now- used to work at the Triumph factory where all the cars were hand built. I know he was on a rolling machine making mudguards (for perhaps Mayflowers). I will have to try to download the video and show it to him on my laptop, I am sure he will be amazed at the progress of technology, no tea breaks for robots !!. Thanks for finding that video and posting it.

what worries me is - front end, firewall, rear end, dashboard.....

um - wtf do i do if i need to remove the dash?

Fascinating. I was fortunate enough to go round the Sindelfingen plant as well as the Porsche plant in Zuffenhausen recently and I find the whole production process fascinating.

But the way all modern cars are built severely restricts home maintenance - although it will probably be made illegal soon at the request of 'ealf n safety anyway.

Waaaay back in about 1994 I went around the LandRover Factory in Solihull with my school,

I found the robots amazing (and scary - due to the size & speed).

Funny to think that all those Mk1 Discovery's are now all crashed/crused/rusty/broken down :)

Whats a Renault Modus ?....I must be getting old. When I was about 8 yrs old , I could put a name to every car on the road.....cortina....zephyr....Hillman....Austin/Morris Oxford..viva / cresta / ....now I havent a clue..Kia this Proton that...I mean in three years time if you wanted to try and advertise and sell one of these cars privately, who the hell would know ? Thats why they depreciate so badly....people want to know what they are buying...name is important....the more obscure the name of a car the more it depreciates .........ya dont have to be Einstein to suss that out !! ..Whilst I am sure Protons, Kias, Skodas, etc are all well made and reliable cars would we buy one second hand ?....Only if it was Asda price.

I recently finished a contract at Aston Martin in Newport Pagnell, not many robots there. The Vanquish is still pretty well hand built start to finish, but I guess when you are only building 8 to 12 cars a week the robots might get bored.
