i would presume the original engine blew and they took the simple route re instrument cluster etc - doesn't explain some of the switchgear though - perhaps stolen, thrashed and recovered with vandalism damage

The engine looks like it's been installed really quite neatly. Then the interior by a teenager at Maplins.

What an excellent way of putting it. Just to add - and the interior parts came from Poundstretcher :D That dash is plain pants

I was liking it (including the crazy engine) until I saw the interior. That steering wheel is pretty horrid.

Impressed with the engineering though, must have been hard to transplant that engine in a modern car and make it work properly.

From his Address, he comes from the Deep South. Must have been inspired by the Dukes of Hazard, sure does like looots of chrome, and strange interiers :bannana: :bannana:

But did you notice what hadn't been done - no chrome gear surround

Small block Chevy..mmmm...bet it sounds nice

I don't think it's a bad thing, after all, it's only a CLK not a proper Merc.

I'll get my coat. :D

Hideous in the extreme.

How awful to put an american engine into such a car.

Funny thing is, standard 320 speedo goes higher than that thing!

It seems to be an American thing, see here...

http://www.v8archie.com/sl500.htm

If you squint a bit (ok, a lot) it looks a little like an SL. Except on the inside, where it still looks like a shitbox Yank tank. But this is the killer:

Turn-Key Information
We can build this conversion on a Mustang chassis that you supply for a total cost of $15,900.00.
This conversion would take about 2 weeks to complete, and is by appointment only.

So that's $16k, plus another couple for the car, and a bit more for repair/maintenance work and tuning to up the power to at least near that of an SL500. So somewhere in the region of $20-25k. In fact, further down there's a conversion on an 86 model that they want $21k for.

You could buy a perfectly good early-mid 90's SL for that. :D

Well some of the switches and the dash leaves a little to be desired but I like it. :D :bannana:

Well Done that man.

Runs off to hang head in shame :p

looks fine to me - it's not my car so it's not up to me to criticise :)

I bet it sounds nice though and there'll be a lot more tuning parts available for that Chevy block than the MB one.

So what if the switch gear looks tacky - all that matters is that it works

But toggle switches for the windows??

seems odd that they took all that trouble,, engine swap etc,, and the ac is only blowing through half the vent's,,??

if they could'nt be bothered to sort something simple like that out,, what else have they half done,,

but,, if the original engine blew,, i'd bung in a big vee,, they're probably tripping over them all the time,,

hmmm! some of the mods are ok but some are just hideous. looks like another marmite car. ive seen worse
