HP Printer ink

I guess it depends on how much printing you do.

My Canon inkjet (top quality photo printer) has 5 individual tanks. The main black one costs £9.69 delivered, and does 5500 pages of A4 text. Possibly a laser would be even cheaper, but I can live with being able to print 5.6 pages of text for 1p. The colour tanks are £7.89 each.

I'm with Bill - depends how much printing you do. I've got a canon A3 printer with seperate print tanks. The electronic bits built into the print heads get changed less frequently.
I use Tonik.co.uk for ink tanks & print heads and generally use their own brand ink tanks as I don't do much high grade printing. Their service is good and they have replaced any faulty items without question.

My FIL has a Canon printer - think it's an iP6600 - which uses 7 ink carts and it's a right pain, especially as he buys the cheapest possible and then calls on me to make it work, which means swapping chips and many levels of warning messages. :(

The carts don't seem to last 5 mins and with 7 of them one or more seems to need changing almost every time the printer is used. It blocked the print head the other day and new one was £40 - I thought I'd be able to get a whole printer for that these days but the prices seem to have bounced a little.

It was almost cheaper to buy a new printer than to buy just the cartridges.

The manufacturers cottoned on to this and you get 'starter' cartridges with many new cheaper laser and inkjet printers.

I picked up a little HP printer recently that came with a cartridge with a note to say that it was rated at just 10 photo prints.

I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised to get a full set of cartridges with the Canon.

Same as mine Rory. 6 cartridges in the 6600. The point is, I only use original CLI 8 cartridges (£8.70 off the internet, delivered). I've never had a blockage, chip problem or anything other than perfect printing. In 2 years though I've got through 6 Cyan, 6 Photo Cyan, 7 Magenta, 9 Photo Magenta, 11 Yellow and 12 Black cartridges! That's a lot of money for someone.
