Hunter Alignment

:DLOl, as people say you never know till you try!, you would be surprised how many on the US forum track their W211,s and within this forum, members on previous track days at Goodwood we previously organised here, several E55, SL 55, SLK55 and CLS55 members have tracked their cars, if you have not done a track day or performance event yourself, your missing out in making the most of the performance of your own car, no point in ripping up public roads with a VX corsa or such, to my eyes, no point in owning a 55/63 and not enjoying it's full potential on track or Vmax type event, but appreciate it,s solely my own opinion here. There is a group of us going to Goodwood on the 18th June if you,d care to try it out:thumb:

Indeed, no harm in trying anything once I say. I would love it to be true as it would inject another enjoyable aspect of the ownership.

Vmax I can understand, after all its not a track type event.

I took mine to a place called Driver Skills in Elvington, York last Summer.

My event was to have a professional racing driver out in my car whilst we went round a coned off airfield runway.

Despite the obvious appreciation of the engine, that guy was astounded and very impressed how well the car handled as standard in Sport II on standard wheels - and how quick I could get it round their circuit with his guidance.

I caned my old front tyres down to the canvas though but well worth it.

I would say there is nothing true about these events, in the instance you raise here, if you had ever been on a genuine Vmax event, those comments would not be uttered, your going around the bottom bend from the start line at 100MPH plus, and once building up to and going through the finish line at 160-230 plus MPH dependant on what car you should be blessed to have, and then standing on the brakes big time, then flooring it back through the return corners to the start line, for a re attempt, its virtually a track day, and the brakes are very well worked there. Think it may be best you get yourself out there to experience such events so as you can comment first hand.:dk:

Interesting take on my comment, I can tell your very passionate about it all.

Having seen Ricky's 55 in action at Goodwood listening to the scream from the supercharger as it tears up the tarmac towards you followed by the roar from the quads as it passes I can confirm he's passionate about it:D

It looked pretty good for an old heavy lump on the track:thumb:

Centre Gravity is far more expensive than you quote for a full set up, my own car, with myself was there for 9 hours, some Porsches are there for days, but the W211 Mercedes rear end is very limit to alterations to its geometry set up, it was not a 2 hour in and out, multiple road tests, many measurements, setting the suspension levels, (renntech lowering module set to premium requirement) and discussions, to finite the client, in this case myself, needs.
Yes very much agree that WIM have very much more Merc experience, in fact CG said They have very few Mercs in, but CG are more detailed about the finer points of the geometry set up and the clients needs, and yes track days are why I was there, you benefit on the road, but see the big plus on track, but if your just roading your car, WIM will be good enough for your own needs.:thumb:

True! Typo I meant to write £3k at CG.

Thanks Ginger, it was really good to finally meet up for a chat with you at Goodwood a few weeks back, and yes as you suggest here, I am fully engrossed in these track and Vmax days, very much more so with in this forum and the guys here, but quite frankly when organising these track day events, it really is frustrating hearing from the 55/63 owners talking the talk, we have this power or that torque!, within the forum, and then they never then, come to the track or similar events, I personally am so appreciative of the guys that do here, and they are many, not all the events, but one here, one there, good guys testing their cars, I could throw numerous names up here that should have, but never have, very disappointing. I have never understood it, 5-600BHP and drive it on the road, stating they did this or that, really sorry full!., The regularly group we have, that continually go out to these events, I am in frequent contact with, and it's a joy to see them 5-6 times a year with the adrenalin pumping events, great banter, great cars, and enjoyable days out.
Looking forward to Goodwood On June the 18th, which a good group of us have jumped into.
But in selfish moment here E55 wise, I further look forward to the potentially hyper 2 no. E55's that are nearing completion by 2 guys here, will be fun seeing them in operation. Look forward to any event they go to, I will be there.:thumb:

Not sure you guys are comparing apples with apples when talking Centre Gravity. I have a road car Boxster and another before this one and have used them probably 4 or 5 times in 4 years. Not just for geo but suspension fitting and overhaul too. A check and set up is a couple of hours. I've not spent 4 figures unless going to town with significant new parts. I wouldn't say they were OTT for a road car at all but to be honest a big heavy Merc saloon is not exactly the sharpest tool in the box.

Yes I have to say the C63 is hardly a surgeons scalpel. I do think MB need some training in handling by M division over at BMW.

Don't get me wrong AMG are great cars, I have a C55 after all. But I have an AMG because it's not the sharpest handling car but more towards comfort. If I wanted the best handling sports saloon I wouldn't buy an AMG. But for road car they are great. It's a perfect foil if you have something else to play the outright handling card without getting a Volvo :D

Stu, where did you take yours?

Once I get my house move out the way I'm looking forward to getting involved in some Vmax and track days. finding the time is the only tricky bit but I will get to something this summer for sure :bannana:

Don't forget to take a look at the Terminal Velocity events as well :thumb:

Anyone recommend anywhere in Aberdeenshire where I can get my E63 done?

Dave

Having experienced WIM a few times and such places as Centre Gravity and Spires-ST in Warwick, I'd always go for CG/Spires. Spires took 4 hours and virtually disassembled the suspension in order to get it right, much more than just an alignment.

PeterDLM - thanks for replying, however to go and see them would be a 900 mile round trip.

Anyone know of anyone in Aberdeenshire?

Dave

I was just responding to the general thread, not actually replying to you :thumb::D

AMD in Essex did a cracking job on my old W204 C63 and my mates too. Mine was only slightly out but you do certainly feel the difference. My mates was waaay out and he was shocked as to the significance in feel he immediately got.

Seasonal Hunter alignment is a must now in my eyes. Will take the E63 there soon for it, don't trust Merc to have checked it.

This thread is almost 3 years old btw, if anyone can help out Davemfox who's after someone up his way.
