A bit of internet research, a small fix and a massive result
When I bought my car I knew that the central locking did not work from the driver's door.
In actual fact the driver's door locked from the boot and the passenger doors, but using the key in the driver's door did not operate the central locking. I knew there was an alarm fitted that had been disabled and bypassed, and had a hunch that this was the cause. I was even more sure when I removed the door card and had no joy shorting any of the actuator terminals to earth.
Looking under the bonnet I found a Scorpion 738 alarm. Removing the wiring gaiter I found that both the plugs had been pulled out. I took photos of the connectors and wires and got on my computer.
I couldn't find anything about the 738, but amazingly the Wayback Machine has archived the Scorpion 838 manuals.
Here's the fitting guide

Even more amazingly, the wiring diagram and connectors matched my 738 loom perfectly. There are two connectors, the top being central locking, and the bottom being the alarm functions. The fitting instructions say to cut one of the central locking blue wires on the car and join one end to two of the Alam wires - grey, and green/black.
Not wanting to reconnect an alarm which was obviously disabled for good reason, I calculated that if I connected the grey and green/black terminals together at the Alarm connector with a short loop of wire it would restore my driver's door central locking. With trepidation I shorted the terminals, and then stuck my key in the driver's door...
Success! Perfect central locking function has been restored.
I am half tempted to try repairing the alarm now to get the remote locking back.
