OK, maybe not, but it sounds like there is.
Remember those bears that groaned / growled when you tipped them forwards?

It sounds just like that and lasts for about as long. Stops and starts. You can hear it above Radio 4.

Not connected to aircon as it does it with the unit switched off.

Maybe power steering? It does it when the wheel is still though, and when driving.

It's a 2006 E 320 cdi by the way.

It's under warranty so I'll be taking it in, just wondered really.

Thanks

SBS pump maybe?

I'd put money on Ian's diagnosis - it took ages to get used to the sound not being there on the new one.

Gents

Forgive my shameful ignorance - SBS?

I take it this is a bit of an idiosyncracy of the 211?

As its under warranty, I hope its expensive

Cheers

If you pop the bonnet you will see, on the front left (as you are looking) side of the engine bay, a large shiny aluminium block with loads of brake pipes attached to it. This is it.

I forget what SBS stands for, but someone will oblige I'm sure.

Yes, it is an idiosyncrasy of the 211 it seems.

And yes, well expensive.

Forgot to add. A serviceable unit sounds like that. It is not a sound which foretells of imminent failure!

A 2006 car will not have SBC but ENR and they make no noise at all i think.

Is it a pre or post facelift car? Pre facelift has SBC (Sensatronic Brake System). Post-facelift no SBC, so no noise as standard.

It's pre facelift

What a knowledgeable lot you all are!

The thing does look expensive though doesn't it
