Hi I have just joined the forum. need advice please. I have an E220 on a 2004 plate. Firstly can anyone advise whether this is a w211 or what ?
Then i would like advice as i want to buy a retro fit Mercedes Sat nav system as I am planning trips abroad.

Many thanks in advance.

Much as I hate to say it, Mercedes COMAND is not the most practical option for your car given what model/age it is. For instance, no full postcode

Probably better going for something aftermarket - someone will be along soon to correct me/advise. Also worth giving www.commandonline.co.uk a call - the guys there are members on this forum and probably the best in the UK to advise you.

Keep us informed please so other can learn too

Mercedes command sat Nav was outdated the day it was installed if you want an in car fitted system go for one of the Pioneer Kenwood et al far more use than command plenty of threads on here on brands and how to install

Alternatively if you only want it for sat nav features buy a Tom Tom connected device I use mine all over the world and it never fails

I have command, not very good. Gives voice instructions to late and for some reason " now turn right" Look at the map, straight on. I think you would be much better off £80 to £120 worth from Halfords.

I have COMAND in my W211 and normally end up using a standalone satnav on the windscreen if I want to make sure I arrive at my actual destination!

(BTW your car is a W203)

The OP said he has a 2004 E22O so it would be a W211 ,a W203would be a C class.:thumb:

As said already, a standalone satnav is probably a better option, if only for a full voice control and 'in line of sight' position.

My preference is Garmin, but I'm sure TomTom is equally capable.

Don't stick it to the windscreen though - the best place for it is on top of your dash, about the same height as your instrument cluster.

Garmin offers this excellent friction mount, it leaves no residue/marks and is as sturdy as they come. I have two, for different cars, and the older one is five years old now - still perfect, all you have to do is wash the base with water once every couple of years to regain the 'stickability' :thumb:

TomTom or Garmin on a Brodit mount. I've got Command on my 2012 C250 but far prefer my TomTom plus Pocket GPS World camera warnings.

If it has a standard CD player then it's a very easy job to install the later Comand (NTG 2.5) which is Hard Drive based, plays DVD's, has Bluetooth built in, has a Hard Disc for music storage, full post code search and 3D maps.

Much better than the correct era Comand which is now well out of date and pain in the butt to install.
