No. The person gave empty anonymous negative feedback to the first post in this thread. I fully understand that you can't find a post which deserves that :)

Simon,

Which garage will be repainting the car for you? Mercedes used Abbey Coachworks in my case and i wasn't impressed with their job, the bootlid came back the wrong shade and when i gave them the car back again they spilt polish in the boot and had drip marks in the paint! I would use nother garage, as the chap i sold the E55 to is complaining that the boot is beginning to rust again!

Hey Nav,

Because of your recommendation, I actually specified that I don't want Abbey Coachworks doing it :-) I don't know who will be working on it (I'm waiting for a lady to get back to me from Park Royal, she's on annual leave at the moment). But I'll let you all know when I know!

Well, after a lot more hoops, my car will finally be going in on the 18th of November. It's being done by someone other than Abbey Coachworks (apparently they've had a lot of complaints about Abbey Coachworks and no longer send work to them unless they have to), but I don't remember who. They're going to work on the car for a week.

One of the hoops I had to jump through was the courtesy car. First of all they offered me a Smart for-four car. I pointed out that one of the reasons we have the E class is that it has seven seats and lots of storage space - we have baby twins and a toddler, and need the space. I'd not even fit the twin pram in the "boot" of a Smart! So, after another week, they came back and promised...an A class. Not really much better ;-) I've been having an ongoing discussion, and finally today I found out that they've managed to get a C180 estate. Two months to get it, and not a patch on my E320cdi, but at least it'll have a boot big enough for me to put the pram in.

So, what should I make sure of when the car goes in? I have no idea about bodywork - is there anything I should specify? Make sure that they do anything specific? Any generic advice?

Cheers,

Excellent news Simon.

If you have any stone chips on panels they don't intend on replacing, ask them if they intend to treat them, or simply paint over them. In my case they did the latter and whilst they are protected better now, they look like painted over stone chips.

The blend coat thay use isn't always outstanding, so be sure to look at it carefully under garage forecourt lighting, and from all angles.

Good luck, and let's hear how it comes out.

Ian.

Well, Monday has come and gone, and the car didn't go in - because I found out when I took it down that they'd booked it at Abbey Coachworks.

Now waiting for a new date.

*sigh*
