Idiot Mercedes Drivers

Nothing too serious tbh except that Motorway cut and driving on red lights...what amazes me is that low lifes filming all this are a bit envious of Merc owners.

The reason I am a forgiving driver is because I have made the same mistakes as every other our sole on the roads. There is no such thing as the perfect driver, because to err is human, and a computer cannot predict what a human can.

Every single one of us has made some error of judgement since we have passed our driving test, regardless of how insignificant or significant that mistake was. In the video clip in the opening post, the Mercedes drivers made errors of judgement, either intentionally or otherwise, but the owners of the cars with Dash Cams also made errors of judgement; they weren't driving Mercs.

You

Looks like my double entendre went over everyone's head!

Not mine - although I knew your mind is straight from the gutter... :D

I said that in a supercilious way btw.

Again you go up in my estimation Fox! I drive very defensively, but I am 60, and having commuted to Manchester, Bellsfield and Hull, I have not recently been a long distance driver, certainly not in the roadster. Driving old, but well serviced, cars, I am particularly careful. I just don't understand why we can't be more understanding that everyone makes mistakes. In addition, my response to 'hard driving' is wondering if there's a call to a hospital where a loved one is going. I've had that call and did a 30 minute drive in 15, not proud, but had to do it, early in the morning to be fair.

Having said that, there are some idiots.

Well, my mother is 70 and I am 50. You learn as you get older that life is really quite precious. Apart from coming close to losing our lives in a major car crash a few years back, my mother has also lost a few friends to old age or illness.

I drive a powerful car, yet while others are intent on queue jumping along the A17, I am happy to potter along behind slower moving vehicles. If I do overtake, I do so when I know that it is perfectly safe, and won't endanger myself or others around me.

What surprises me about some drivers is that they will overtake one vehicle at a time, often pulling in and forcing the vehicle they have just overtaken to slow up to accommodate them.

I find it strange that normally sane sensible people become demons behind the wheel of a car. Do they not realise that if they have to confront another driver face to face, they no longer have their box on wheels to hide behind.

I refer to it as "self preservation instinct" when I'm talking to my wife about this kind of thing. - I don't understand why you'd risk your own property and/or life for the sake of being a couple of hundred meters ahead.

As above; I will overtake slow-moving traffic, but if it takes 15 minutes before I get a safe opportunity, then so be it.

Similarly I don't understand trying to police other peoples bad behaviour. - If you want to do 100mph on the M6 it's not for me to get in your way; maybe your mother is in hospital, maybe you are in an unmarked police car.
Motorcycles particularly; the rider has already made the decision to roll the dice on their own safety, so I'm not going to be the one responsible for knocking them off.

I think more people need to re-read the highway code more often; if someone wants to do 100mph you don't have the right to stop them! likewise, we drive on the left and the right lane(s) on a motorway are for overtaking not cruising along restricting the flow.

But the bit that gets me is I was always taught to mirror, signal, manoeuvre; is it is so annoying when you are waiting at a roundabout and the approaching car on the right just goes right thereby stopping the traffic flow unnecessarily. I even indicate when I'm in merging traffic FFS!

I think people just need to remember that they are not in their own little world where everyone around them needs to get out of their way and that ALL road users (and pedestrians) have a right to be there :thumb:

Rant over :D

This weekend's bunch

#1 old fart in old fart's car stops suddenly on a roundabout before deciding on correct exit to take. He then exits roundabout, spots a car parking space on right side of road. Drives up wrong side of road. Decides he wants to park the other way round so carries on up wrong side of road. Turns into a junction, narrowly been missed by an on-coming car. Turns the car round in the junction and then pulls out on a transit van.

#2 If you have a private reg don't drive like a bell-end on the M1, weaving in and out of traffic & undertaking before pulling off the motorway at the last possible second. You know who you are Mr BMW driver "1 AKY"

#3 Approx. 4 miles after the and of the M1 50 MPH speed restriction/roadworks - yep a eggbox on wheels in the outside lane doing 48mph with nothing in the other lanes. Yes it had blonde hair :D

Quite so. My husband and I have an arrangement when returning from the Broads. I drive the single carriageway roads and he does the faster roads. I do not overtake unless I can see for miles! I don't trust myself. I am also happy to potter along the A17. What a scary road.

The stretch that runs along Long Sutton to Sutton Bridge is scary, because the road is so wide you often see overtakers travelling as if the road was a dual carriageway, both ways.
