Hi all,

Here's one for you.

My son's laptop started up this morning and went straight into disc check mode. It is running Vista Home. It found a corrupt file and deleted it (so my missus said), and restarted. It restarted successfully and she tried to start Firefox to go browsing. It never came up.

I had a look, and Firefox is sat using about 50% of the CPU seemingly in perpetuity. OK I thought, I'll need to reinstall Firefox, so I killed the task in Task Mangler and tried to open IE. It is doing exactly the same thing!

So - what is going on/wrong? The wifi is connected OK, and other installed programs can update OK, so they can access the web to download their updates. So the laptop in general can obviously see the web. But why can't any of the browsers?

If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them! TIA.

Hi Grober.

Thanks for your suggestions, although they seem to relate to FF specifically, and it was blighting IE8 also.

As it happens, this afternoon the kids have fired it up and it is all working perfectly. I hate it when that sort of thing happens.

Anyway - thanks for the response and I will bear it in mind if we get a recurrence. :thumb:
