Due to an intermittant accelerator fault (still not resolved) I have a hire car provided by MobiloLife whist my car is at the dealer.

By some fluke I ended up with this...

2006 S320 CDI, what an incredible motor:eek:

I have already had my bosses (06' A8 3.0TDI & 07' 750iL) gawping at it and asking me for a test drive...proves there's nothing like a merc:rock:

Got it for an unlimited period of time (unlimited mileage) until my motor is sorted, you won't catch me chasing the dealer thats for sure.;)

 Dig the parking AND leaving it on full lock.

You can tell I'm envious. Well done.

Regards
John

Well, that's a nice car as a loaner, well done.

Hopefully the dealer will won't fix your car soon.

Dammit I thought I was doing well with the CLS320 they gave me when I had the accident in mine, and a W204 C220CDi on my last warranty visit...

I actually got this in to quite a tight spot, minus Parktronic so:rock:

My observations about the car;-

  • Something this size does not look right in Cubanite, Iridium of Obsidian far better IMO
  • Missing some vital options (cheapskate hire company) such as parktronic (crucial on a car this size and really missing it) No heated seats:eek: or memory... no night assist or Distronic, cheapo leather already going shiny (14K)...
  • As this is a 14K mile 11 month old thrashed hire car example... it is a good indication of how well this car wears, there is an intermittent dash rattle and a few creakes from the cabin otherwise (slightly shiny drivers seat aside) it is absolutely as new
Overall it must be said it is an incredible car, rides beautifully, the engine mated to the 7G tronic gearbox is a peach, incredibly refined and well equipped for a standard car. Anyone know whether this has airmatic as standard?

Ok a few more pics to drool over.

All im gonna say you are a lucky man indeed !

I like it but Its not for me,

Agree parking sensors seem crazy being an option on that. I missed them when I got my bus but soon sorted that...

You could do some wedding runs on the weekend in it..

Enjoy cruising round

I like it but Its not for me,

Thats what I though when I was offered it but it really is beautiful to drive and does not feel all that big on the road. I would swap it for the C in a flash:rolleyes:

Enjoy cruising round

More like hairing around:devil: this thing moves, turn off ESP and you get a magnum PI style tail swing out:devil::devil:

My insurers must have been nuts for insuring a 25yr old on this:eek:

I know its not the new model but it's not bad!!

Thanks Peter but my car was actually worth far more new, due to about 4K worth of options and is worth far less now due to having 87K

Paid £9995 for it a year ago.

As regards the S Class, though it is a nice car, I would look a bit of a to$$er driving one at 25, even most of the E's around here are driven by the pipe and slippers brigade (sorry)

Needless to say I would be instantly bankrupted if anything went wrong too.

Just took it for a spin and had a really hairy moment on a roundabout:eek: (road a bit greasy) thank you ESP:rock:

I must say, I would prefer a petrol anytime to the diesel, I can't get the rumble out of my head and this is and S Class. The slight lag also annoys me (give me a supercharger any day), can't argue with the in-gear torque though:devil:

As regards MPG, I have done 35miles in it today at 14mpg:eek::eek: not very diesel like I know but I have been giving it an Italian tune up:p;)

You keeping it then?

I'm not smitten by the looks of the car, but the interior is gorgeous.

However
"it is a good indication of how well this car wears, there is an intermittent dash rattle and a few creakes from the cabin otherwise (slightly shiny drivers seat aside) it is absolutely as new"

What is going on? This is abysmal for Mercedes best saloon at 14k

Looks like a great car, in fact... it looks a bit like mine!
It is not the best car to have in town, it really is a little large, but once on the open road I wouldn't swap it for anything.
Started at 0500 yesterday, did a 400mile round trip with a full days work in between and arrived back home fresh as the proverbial at 2030.
That's why it's the best car available. Enjoy it!:D

I would be impressed with anyone that could afford to own\run an S-class at the age of 25 and would certainly NOT think they were a t****r.

However

Just took it for a spin and had a really hairy moment on a roundabout:eek: (road a bit greasy) thank you ESP:rock:
ANYONE, no matter what there age, who drives in an inappropriate manner might well be viewed as a t****r

I love the throaty V8 rumble of the AMG, but if I owned an S-class then perhaps I would appreciate silky smooth quietness? Horses for courses.

14mpg over what distance? I just cannot imagine the circumstances in which you could achieve those figures over any long distance? Short trips up hills, but unless the gears are deliberately held in a low ratio, how on earth did you get that figure. I am not doubting you and I ask out of curiosity. Was it a figure achieved on one very short journey or over a longer more realistic distance?

John the curious

14 mpg is really impressive! Mine managed 42 heading south yesterday (I guess it's down hill...) and has averaged 39 over the last 2500 miles.
I am also intrigued to know how that level is acheived.
Once managed to get 4.4mpg in Bentley Flying Spur around Nardo but that was at 200mph. We could only do 21minutes before stopping for fuel.
I never even thought about a service station yesterday!
