Various Mercs come and go
Hi,

I've got a W124 300E twin turbo conversion by Turbo Technics coming into me next week as a Part Exchange.

Does anybody have the spec on this conversion.......I'm really up on my W124's and I've had a Mosselman twin turbo in the past, but I have to say that this conversion looks much much better and the car goes like stink....I understand that it may be pushing out 310bhp. Its a beautiful conversion, and is one of the first W124's to be fitted with ASR, being a 1990 car. The car is completely standard, even down to 15" flat face alloys, but its fully loaded in terms of spec and the maintenance records are to die for and the bodywork is immaculate.

The conversion was undertaken by Hughes of Beaconsfield the well known MB dealer that used to do these conversions and infact they still provide full servicing and parts supply for the conversion.

So does anybody know any more...ie BHP, Torque, Top Speed, Acceleration Stats, because I tell you just by driving it the once this beast shifts and feels faster than my dearly departed W124 500E which had 326bhp and this is Right Hand Drive, which is even better!!!!!:)

Sounds like the ultimate Q-car! :D

Can't Hughes of Beaconsfield help you with data?

Was that the one on ebay recently ? It did not say if it was a 24v model or not. There was also an early nineties 320e on Pistonheads, for £9950.........and then he woke up !

Finally got mine set up by top man Charlie at S.R.R and he says its a 320bhp car. Fuelling now set not quite so lean so I can drive it like I stole it at a not unreasonable 300bhp output.

With its lighter weight and increased torque figure I'd love to see how it matches up to a 500e.

I look forward to seeing yours and to finding out if you can secure some proper performance figures. All I had to go on was what Mosselman claimed and he only refers to the 0-60 figure. Its not really an off the line kinda car,........ well sometimes, but I've been very impressed with things once its rolling

Good luck with it, hope its a good one

I'll be putting a call into Hughes on Monday to talk to them....as it happens events have taken a much faster turn and I picked the car up today.

Oh my God is all I can say..........when this car kicks down a gear the car goes into warp factor.....way way faster than my old 500E in terms of in gear acceleration and the way the engine spins up the rev range is impressive...totally smooth and effortless.

What also impresses me is how docile it is in traffic....no stuttering, no getting hot etc....just like a normal 300E.

This particular car has 170,000 miles on the clock and only two owners from new, the last having the car for 11 years when they bought it with 62,000 miles on the clock.

The car comes with full service history and all bills for the last 11 years....having gone through them in detail has been fascinating, as the whole car has been serviced and maintained to the very highest standard and has effectively been rebuilt during the last 11 years.....how does £23,821 of bills sound like over the last 11 years!!!!!

Talking to the owner, it was a case that whatever needed doing was done at the highest level, ie instead of rebuilding the gear box, a new one was purchased and nothing was allowed to drift from service to service...ie if anything was identified, it was replaced.

Much of the servicing is all with main dealers or with mercedes specialists.

The car is completely rattle and squeak free and drives like a 50,000 mile car.

Not a spec of rust on the body and the interior is virtually wear free.....ie how many W124's have you seen at this mileage with a perfect drivers side seat bolster?????

Working Air-Con, built in radar detector behind the front grill, ASR (very rare to see this on a 1990 car), stainless exhaust system.

I'll get some photos loaded to show you just how ridiculously standard the car looks.....nothing gives the game away....its still on little old 15" flat face alloys.

Talking to the last owners they clearly loved this car and told me of various trips on the continent when they had the old girl upto 155mph with more to come:crazy:

Whilst I am falling totally head over heels with this old girl, it will only be with me for a short period of time, as she will be looking for a new home as I need the proceeds to continue with the rebuild of my W124 AMG Hammer, with its Quad Cam 5.6 V8....the problem is I think it may already be too late to stop me falling even more in love with this 300E!

Richard at ********** had one of these for a while, you could give him a call as he's pretty clued up. 07801 848989

The joys of Turbo's I miss mine. lets see some pics!

My old price list for TURBO Technics dated Jan 1992 states the following:-
300e 12v 310bhp turbocharger system fitted price £5950
300e 24v 340bhp turbocharger system fitted price £5950

How much you asking for it Vlad ? ;)

Just taken some photos and the links are shown below.

I've also had a better chance to have a look over the bodywork and its quite remarkable.....not a single dink on the flanks of the car, no scratches and not one bubble of rust.....talk about build quality and how it used to be.

The alloys were refurbished a couple of years ago, so are also in great condition.

The exhaust is the original heavy duty stainless system fitted by Turbo Technics, which gives the car a nice purposeful sound....very subtle and not in any which way Max Power!

Car also has all of the original documentation from Turbo Technics re maintenance.

Lastly, I pulled off a VIN check from the MB Club Russia which shows that the car is fitted with:

Orion Gray leather interior
Electric Sliding sunroof.....perfect working order...the cassette was taken out last year and fully regreased.
Rear Headrests
Acceleration Skid Control (ASR)
Folding front armrest
Behr air conditioning .....perfect working order
Headlamp washers

and lastly the car is fitted with the sportline suspension.

How standard does that look!!!!!.....a real wolf in sheeps clothing

Nice clean flanks

The only give away re the performance is the Turbo badge and if it was me, I would remove the that badge and maybe replace the 300E with a 300D badge!:D

The engine room.....neat installation!!

In terms of price I would be looking for the first sensible offer over £5,750, which I think gives somebody a lot of bang for their buck.....310bhp, and in excess of 155mph. Car has also been virtually rebuilt by the past owner as part of the ongoing maintenance regime, ie new auto box, new turbo's (not refurbished ones), new water pump, timing chain, head gasket +top end overhaul, new radiator, new ASR control unit.....all over the 11 year ownership period.

Bodywork is one of the best I've seen and the interior is first class.

Fun motoring in a rare Merc and even better than that you can still get full support and parts for the installation from MB Main dealer, Hughes of Beaconsfield and from Turbo Technics themselves.

Cheers

Vlad

I have had more fun in the last 24 hours than I have in the last 2 years of driving.......the looks on peoples faces when they get overtaken by a 16 year old Merc is priceless......especially the guy in his 2005 BMW 740 who was flashing everybody out of the way on the motorway....I moved over and then kept level with him as he tried to accelerate away, and then I just flexed my foot and left him standing at a speed that I do not wish to divulge:rolleyes:

I think he'll be into his local BMW dealership today complaining thats there's something wrong with his car as he was blown away by an old Merc.

Yes, its all very immature, but I haven't had so much driving fun in ages!!!

Really need to get that Turbo badge off the back to make it even more confusing for people.

yeah and get a 250D badge ......

Really does sound like a keeper to me Vlad.......

Its so tempting, but needs must, and I will be moving the car on as that was always the intention and is part of my "master plan" for raising funds to pay for the rebuild on my W124 AMG 5.6 Quad Cam engine, which will kick out 360bhp.....so goodness only knows what that will feel like in a W124:crazy:

Any interested purchasors of the Twin Turbo should let me know ASAP as I will start actively advertising the car later this week.......you know it makes sense!!!!!!!!!!!!

Surprisingly its not bad on the old juice...not that far off my old E280....I would hazard a guess of @ 25mpg on a run, but late teens if you're giving the car the full beans.
