Hi all,

Having suffering from vibration on the rear of my W211 I took it down to my local tyre place today and he has stated that one of the rears are out of shape and the other 3 are worn badly on the inside so he says all 4 need replacing.

Is this normal behaviour on a W211? My guy says as its a heavy car they can wear on the inside.

With this in mind too it may explain why the car pulls to the right too whenever I let go of the wheel and would suggest I need a 4 Wheel Alignment, Micheldever tyres is near me so I'm hoping their John Bean system is as good as the Hunter systems.

So this leads to looking at tyres, my shortlist is the below but if anyone has suggestions or opinions please feel free to offer.

Given that the W211 is aimed at comfort, I would want a tire that is the quietest, I would hope the below offer good fuel efficiency and wet grip anyway.

Kumho Ecsta Sport KU31
Falken ZE914
Pirelli P7 Cinturino
Michelin Primacy 3

Any advice much appreciated.

I have just had the Kumho KU39 on rear of CLK and i very happy with them, have Kumho on a number of cars and think they are hard to beat for the price, easily as good as some more expensive rubber..

Much as I'd love to get KU39's on the 16" size they don't do it, only the KU31's.

I know what you mean about the KU39's, I have 4 on my own BMW and I can't fault them for the money (£410 vs £630 for Goodyears)

No stigma against the KU31's but it is a more sporty tyre and I would associate the W211 to be a touring car so maybe a Primacy would suit better?

Look at ZX5s

I have a E220 and had 4 Avon ZV5s fitted very happy with them.
Good grip in the wet, done 5k on them now very little wear.
They cost £94 each from national tyres (on line) take a look on their web page,:bannana: lot going for them

I've just replaced the rears on my S211 - probably 2mm left on the outside (where I check), through the canvas and wires showing on the inside (Picture now added). I went for Dunlop Sport Maxx as they are rated at only 70db and thus far they seem a good choice.

I now need to try and get some of the excess camber out of the back end... One for another post.

The rear is not a camber problem (unless there is chronic wear in the suspension components), inside wear is caused by too much toe out (negative toe).

Make sue the wheel alignment chap puts maximum toe in (positive) for your particular model.

Only two brands of tyre manufacturer I use on Mercedes are Continental for performance and Kumhos for standard cars.
