Ive just bought a ICE installation kit from my local car discount store, quick couple of questions:

1. Anything I should know when disconnecting the battery, I seem to remember reading you only disconnect the positve connector & leave the negative attached?

2. Any tips as to the best/shortest route to the headunit? Im thinking under the door kick plates etc?

Any other pointers please let me know!

Cheers

Hi Karl-When you say 'installation kit' I presume you mean for an amp to power a sub? I have run a cd changer cable, and phono lead link to my boot from the head unit. From the head unit drop the cables down to below the glove box, behind the passenger side kick plates, and under the plastic door sill covers. From there, remove the rear seat, and feed the cables next to, or thru the black plastic cable ducts and then thru to the boot area. As far as the battery connections go, yes! leave the neg connected, but be aware once you disconnect the pos, it will trigger the alarm as it has a battery back up (hopefully you have the override key to mute it, unlike me:o ). make sure your installation kit has a fuse, which you should fit near to the battery. Mine was a fuse block that I actually fixed, using double sided, tape to the top of the battery. Shame you don't live nearby as I would be happy to help...Good luck....and let da bass rumble:D

Just for your information-you have no idea how hard it is to type a reply that makes sense, and without spelling mistakes when you have had a few beers....now-where's that kebab?

Cheers for the reply, yeah its a complete kit to link my amp, headunit, speakers etc etc.

The main powerlead has a fuse built in.

Question though, It included a bag of clips etc, but how do I attach it to the battery? Id have thought you would need a large hook/loop to hook it onto the postive point? - as its dark I havent had a look at the battery to see what other connection is avaible.

Cheers!

I used a large (gold plated cos I'm flash) ring connector. It's like the crimp type ones, but instead of crimping it, it has two allen nuts to secure the cable, the size of the ring connector depends on the power output of the amp,ie: how much current it will draw from the battery. If it's a complete amp wiring kit, more than likely it will be inclused in the kit

Whats the deal with touching the battery, I take it im ok as long as I dont touch both + & - at the same time?

Can I touch the + if nothing else is connected to it?

Spend the best part of 6 hours installing it.

Removed so much trim, seats, kick plates, harnesses, centre console etc.

After all that work you you cant see a single cable anywhere!

All is good, except no sound is comming out of the sub :( im knackered and its dark so I will carry on at the weekend.

For the record, am I able to connect the negative amp connection to the negative battery point (where it connects to the chassis)? as its a bit messy in the boot at the mo...

You can, but you would be safer connecting to a separate earthing point. Mine's bolted onto the bulkhead on the right hand side of the boot, that creates the storage area in the right hand corner.

Surprised you had to remove so much though? For my install I removed both dash underpanels, all the kick plates on the right hand side, and the rear seat. Wires run up the right hand side, and over the right wheelarch. Took about 30 mins to disassemble.

Next job on the list when the new amp arrives is to create a false wall on the seat bulkhead to house it, and install a stealthbox in the left rear corner.
