Hi

I have had to make a claim on my insurance for repairs to my car and I have not been happy with the level of service that I have reieved from the insurance companies approved repairer. I therefore want to get some form of compensation, the easiest way, I feel, would be to get a discount on the excess that I have to pay.

Who would I complain to, the garage themselves or the insurance company?

Many thanks

Tan

Hi Tan,

Can you elaborate a little? Can't really make out what the problem is from that :o

On a basic level, I'd have expected your dealings with the insurers themselves would be where you'd direct any complaints. They instruct/arrange the repairs with the repairer?

Not sure how you'd expect/ask for compensation, surely if there's a problem that needs sorting out you would ask for it to be corrected etc. Never really heard of discounts on excess payments due?

With most insurance companies you pay your excess to the garage yourself.

I guess you could withold payment of your excess but you may not get your car back then.

If you need to complain, surely you will have to go through your insurance company because they chose the repairer so I would go to them first.

According to new laws, YOU can chose whoever you want. They can only recommend.

I think there are some rules regarding getting 3 quotes together and agreeing with the insurance company who will do the repairs.

You are allowed to choose who repairs your car and the insurance company can do nothing about it.

If I was in the OP's position I'd tell the insurance company to get the works up to the highest standard and tell them if they don't do that, that the car will be taken to a competant repairer and they will be paying for the job to be done twice.

Bear in mind why an insurance company has an approved repairer. They have to pay for the repairs and the approved garage ARE cheaper.
