Intelligent Light System

You should be able to see your light pattern doing all sorts of aerobics when active. It does a great job of lighting everything and blanking out the space cars are occupying. It's a great system.

Yes I did notice it dancing sometimes :D

I will check tonight how it goes..

The green lamp symbol mean that the headlamps are on (good) and the white A symbol means that Main Beam Assist is on (also good). When the lights automatically switch to main beam, you will also see the blue main beam warning lamp come on.

That's about right... Same on my W212... I encounter people who would flash their lights at me sometimes, but I think it is because the MB lights are a bit brighter... or maybe they're jealous;-)

Maybe if your windscreen is filthy the camera which "looks" for oncoming lights may not be as sensitive as it could be? Sometimes I see an HGV coming lumbering towards me up an incline, and I can see the cab, but can't see his headlights. So if I can't see the headlights, the diddy camera can't. So that's when I just flip the stalk back.

But I am amazed generally how quickly the lights change (in fact I was in awe last winter, and the first time I was behind someone and the "black box" appeared around the car in front, I thought my eyes were failing for a second!). I've never been flashed at by an oncoming vehicle in the 14 months I've had my E Class.

Assuming your car is RHD, the system should be set for 'left side', as UK drives on the left.

If you switch it to 'right side', you will not have full functionality, hence the message. Handbook should give full details of functions not available.

The lights are bright, but they shouldn't dazzle others if properly set up. Have either of the headlight units been removed/replaced at any time, possibly affecting alignment.

You have obviously never driven in Newham then.

I've driven around Leigh Park a few times though, where they go around a round-a-bout anti-clockwise.

Yeah I did realize that it should be set to "left side traffic" but this is what it was set all the time. I only played with the settings after I got flashed few times..Regarding alignment/replacement etc. I don't know about that as I only bought it last month. How can I get the alignment checked? Would it be a MB service center or a MB Specialist. Anyone has any idea how much would it cost to check and correct alignment?

I had the same problem when I got delivery of my CLA 220 with ILS (Xenons). For a number of months I'd get flashed by both cars and trucks alike until I took it in for a service and mentioned it to the MB dealer, then they corrected it.
They said the dipped beams where misaligned from the factory, hence all drivers being dazzled by the lights even when the full beams were not functioning. As far as I'm aware it's a simple job to fix, but can't tell you how much it costed as it was done during the service.

We've got both, LED on the 63 and Xenons on the 350. Both are superb but tbh, I prefer the non framing effect of the Xenons.

I just have to remind the wife all the time to push the stalk away.

I believe the ILS on the W204 is xenons.
Correct. Or to be more accurate, they're bi-xenons. It's a mechanical system that moves the lights from main to dipped beam as opposed to the xenons that electrically switches bulbs. It's fairly quick but you can see it moving. The best light display is when you're facing a wall at night and start the car; the lights do a wonderful dance.

Married couples say the weirdest things.
I was waiting for a comment from a seasoned pervert like yourself lolololol !!!

I forgot to update you guys that since my last post I took it for a drive at night on a B road with that stalk away with white A symbol in dash and it worked perfectly fine..I could see that the light went full beam when there was no on-coming car and no car in front of me (with blue icon appearing) and then as soon as it detected a car coming towards me the light got narrowed and then back to full beam as soon as as the car went past me.. some 15-20 cars went past me from opposite direction and none of them flashed me....it was lovely to experience that Intelligent light show :) I am not exactly sure what happened that night when I got flashed twice, thrice .. maybe my windscreen was not clean or maybe those oncoming drivers did not like my Merc headlights

ILS is great! However it annoys me it only activates at 35mph+ and deactivates at 30mph or less. This is not good when driving down small country lanes slowly. I have to change the switch from auto to on
Is there a way the speed for high beam assist can activated at lower speeds? Maybe a star configuration?

I've driven other cars with high beam assist, and they worked right from 5mph.

I picked up my '10 plate E350 with this the other week, and was fiddling in the menus...I too wondered what it meant with left v right - but checking the options via a VIN decoder, it states it's "left side" at manufacture for the UK, so that's where it is...

I've had one "flash" caused by the car not picking up an oncoming car, mostly as it's lights were cunningly behind the central reservation barrier - but otherwise it seems good...

Only thing I haven't seen (which isn't ILS related) is the night vision "framing" of a person in the night vision view - presumably as I've yet to find someone walking in the pitch dark (pesky streetlights!)
