Interior light stays on

One of my rear courtesy light stays on no matter that door is opened or closed.(it stays on until the automatic timer shuts all lights off after 5 minutes)
It is not beause of the door light switch because I had switched over with the other side and confirmed that the switch is functioning properly. This problem causes the rear dome light on too that I have to disconnect it.

Can anyone can give me some hints please?

You have pressed the rear dome-light button on the front dome light. Now please spend 5 minutes pressing the buttons and closing/locking doors until you get the combination right!

I've done it myself a few times and it's really annoying!

Thanks Shude! But please provide me a more details procedure. I really don't understand why MB made such a simple thing so complicated!!!! I start to miss my BMW!

I think that there must be something worng. Because the rear door light is on all the time no matter the door is open or close. There is no button to control the door light, i guess. The circuit must be grounded somewhere.
Is this problem commom for W210?? Anyone can help by providing me a circuit diagram for the rear door light and the dome light please?

I have checked both sides wiring and there is nothing unusual. It actually looks very orginial. So I think that must be the interior light control module. Can anyone help to tell me where this control module locates?
Thanks!

There is a button on the front dome light to turn the rear dome light on and off, try that first :)

Thanks but I did try those switches and they are working fine. One of my rear door light works fine and one doesn't.

That could be the problem then, check and change the door switch, as it may be seized ON.

...how about the plastic trim pieces on your doorcard that sit around the lock of the door...if one is missing - the switch stays unpressed and thus the light is ON.

greetingz,

Actually, what I did try is to open the rear door and press the door light switch completely by hand and hold for few minutes, the door light and the rear central dome light still stay on.

You said earlier that they were functioning properly, as I suggested that the switch might be faulty, and was shouted down.

Take the switch out and test it properly, disconnect the wires and see if the light goes out then??

Pull the gaiter off near the door hinge and check there are no chafed wires.

Could be a knackered PCB in the dome light control unit causing it to malfunction. Have heard of this causing problems.

Where is this dome light control unit located?
(I purchased a new switch over weekend and installed it....but the problem stays.)

In the dome light itself, as far as I am aware . . . somebody posted a question on here a while back and wanted to get hold of just the PCB inside it . . . they were advised to try a breakers if I remember correctly.

Don't remember what the exact symptoms were now though . . .try a search on "Dome Light"

Are you talking about the front dome light?

Sorry ! Printed Circuit Board. Haven't actually taken one of these units apart in the interest of finding out where it is and what it looks like, but might be worth your while if it appears to be easy enough.
