Hey there!

Have a x204 (glk) 2014. Am missing the puddle lights and also would like to have the floor lights ( where the legs and pedals are :) ). Was wondering if anybody knows if installing those bulbs is a massive undertaking or if it's a simple install cable to controller and add lightbulb philosophy after recoding some functions...

Also as far as I gather the puddle lights are located both in the bottom of the door and external mirrors... Would only like the door ones...

Can anybody help with this with some info?

Cheers

Can't offer much help, I'm afraid - mine was US spec X204 and had both footwell lights and door + puddle lights. A very helpful chap at MB Fort Lauderdale told me that American GLKs were 'fully wired' even if option wasn't ticked, although I'm not sure that's accurate anyway.

Also, you have to remember, the X204 was never released in RHD, so it is highly unlikely someone on this forum will be able to help.

Fantastic car, I really wish I could have one here in the UK ... :thumb:

You can always fit your own wiring harness, certainly for the footwell lights (I just did for my A200 C169) - and with a bit more effort, I'm sure it can be done for the door lights too.

Thank you for your answer!
Had no idea that it was never released in RHD... shame... Really like this little car. I imagine that the new glc comes in RHD...?
Time to start tearing plastic off to see if I can find any wires...

Cheers

Yes, something to do with GLK drivetrain or its 4Matic version - can't remember exactly, but apparently, it was impossible to move the steering wheel to the right.

It does, but I like the GLK style so much better - just a perfect combination of slightly funky and yet substantial ... not to mention a proper dashboard with a grown-up instrument panel ...

Also, the current GLC line-up in the UK only offers diesel :wallbash: so not for me. I'll have to wait and see if a petrol model will be introduced later.

I'd start with removing the undertrays below the instrument panel and glovebox, to see if these are pre-cut with holes for footwell lights (mine on C169 were) ...

Yes, the under trays have precut holes for the lights.... Need to ind where the controller boxes are. The actual wiring and lights were not that expensive when I installed puddle lights to my previous viano. Figure it should me similar here...

Fully agree when it comes to the styling of the glk vs glc. Glc looks on the outside way to much like a majority of cars (juke etc...)

Indoors the screen flying around, dash looks like a bar.... Perhaps I am getting too old...

On the assumption this is same as a W204, then: -

Door wiring goes to door controllers (just add wires to existing plugs)
Foot-well lights wire to the front SAM - pig to get out and get at
Nothing will work until data-card update and coding done.

That's good, as to the controllers - hopefully someone with WIS access can help.

In that case, you and I - both.
To me the GLC looks like a CRV with a Mercedes star :dk:
Nothing wrong with CRV, that's what I hire when I'm across the pond, but it's not a Merc.

I drove one a couple of days back (220d well spec'ed version). It was really nice. Quite tempted as i'm hacked of with the size of the ML !

So went by the my dealer today... Had him look up my car in order to find the electric harness needed for the puddle lights and footwell lights. His first reaction was to explain to me that it is almost impossible to install these lights and actually have them working...

Last year when I had a similar project with my viano the member zenman63 which I think most of us are familiar at this forum manage to give me the art nr for the lights, electric wires and also what coding needed to be done...

This after I gave him the vin no of my viano...

Would like to contact him and ask if he has the possibility to look up my glk...
However contacting him via pm requires a post amount of 30.... Should be up to 20 now....

So I do apologise for writing a single post over several posts...

Please take it as a token that I am indeed a mb enthusiast...

Of course, who else would be bothered installing these lights that only add a cozy factor to a car...

Since I am writing these pointless posts, may I ask if anybody knows if the camera Installed for the intelligent light system is the same as the lane assist, or speed sign cameras? Ie, can I somehow add on these features to the car if it has the intelligent light function??

I do apologise for this

You have to make the loom from fusebox to footwell lights.
You can either buy new door looms with the wiring for the puddle lights or make the short looms. You will need something that can crimp MQS contacts though

No, it is a cutdown camera.

Ok, got a mail from the dealer.... Seems that the wiring for the footwell lights is already there... Removed the cover on the driver side and.......found no wiring that is just begging to become a footwell light. guess its fully possible that they are there however which one of the million rolled up wires it actually is is beyond me.

Puddle lights is as you say, new door looms with wiring for the puddle lights...

Think i just need to put this project on hold... damn it! So much easier on the viano...

If someone can pull a wiring diagram from WIS, it'll tell you the footwell lights code and wire colours. That's how I sorted my DRL mod on C169 - I needed to pick dipped beam light positive to use as a trigger to dim the DRLs.
