Hi all

I wonder if anyone can help with this problem. I recently changed my Ipod from a 20Gb to 80Gb model. Before changing the Ipods the in-car system had worked fine. Now when I select the aux input frequently nothing happens except, when I change to the dash audio display Error is displayed.

I try disconnecting and reconnecting the Ipod and it occasionally fixes the problem. The system seems to work better if I leave it some time after connecting it before trying to use it.

I appreciate any thoughts

Thanks

Todd

Had the same problem..strange. Used 80gb 1st generation Ipod and switched to ipod touch 64gb and didn`t work at all for some reason but works in my Vito. Went back to Apple and asked what the problem. The result was: probably my c180k is hasnt got up-to-date upgrade( what upgrade!?) and then my connection( fitted by Alfie ) it might corrupted ( crap...dont believe that ). I asked for a refund and went to Comet to buy one. Now its works perfectly.
On apple forums some guys said that few ipods dont really pick up wi fi and even in car cabling should be bought from Apple. Since when Apple is doing in car systems !?

Try updating your ipod or check cabling for dust/dirt. There is a delay sometimes in recognizing the ipod( why !? ) but it`ll work. There is nothing wrong with your Comand/Audio20/50 unit.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried giving the ipod connector a quick wipe with a tissue I had to hand, but I'll try cleaning both the ipod and car wiring properly. Then it's to Apple for an update. Hopefully it will start behaving itself.

Thanks for the confirmation it's not the car side of things, as I didn't fancy getting the dashboard stripped.

I checked with Apple and the ipod had the latest software. I also tried cleaning the connectors with contact cleaner. Despite trying plugging and unplugging with the ipod turned on and off it made no efect.

Then when I came back to the car after a couple of hours it was working as it should. So I may try reverting to the initial software release.

If the iPod is playing up, we've often seen that
a) just powering off and powering back on (properly, rather than sleep) the iPod fixies it
b) occasionally a 'restore' from iTunes is needed

I'd suggest that means software bugs (or possibly hardware lockup on some chip) on the iPod ..
