Hi all,
The 220CDi (01Plate) that I purchased three years ago never once failed to turn over the motor and fire up.
Recently when I insert the ignitioin key and turn to position 3 all the dash lights come on but then nothing. Turn the key back and try again and it starts fine. This occurs about one in every ten starts.
Had a new starter and solenoid fitted, but problen still persists. Is this going to let me down when i'm miles from home?
Thanks for any suggestions.

a friend of mine had this problem too, still doesnt know what causes it, although it only happens if the ignition key is turned from 0 to start quickly, try turning the key to position 1, the 2 then 3 pausing slightly between each turn, i know it doesnt solve the problem (if it works) but maybe it will narrow down the possible causes

Hi,

I've had this problem with my mercedes A Class, the problem was that starter motor solenoid, i pxd the old starter motor for a reconditioned one and car works fine now.

Took me over three months to sort out ! Had to go see a pro car electrician to have a breaker fuse fitted to protect the new starter from being affected by excess current.

Hope this helps
