iphone 3gs comand help please

I have not updated my iphone to iOS 4.2 because I am concerned that I may have a problem with my contacts in the comand in my 2006 S211.

Can anyone tell me if this will cause a problem or has this all been fixed now. I am using an iphone cradle in the car.

The only reason that I need to update is because some of the apps no longer work.

I am currently on 3.1.3 (7E18)

As above. On my car I am using Visee0-MB2 and IOS 5.1.1 no issues with contacts sync.
