iPhone 5!

well thats just as well i didnt go for the connected apps option on my new car and instead got the all singing all dancing bluetooth AD2P package :)

Surely mercs have AD2P these days?

AD2P is limited to 328k, more often than not is down sampled to 201k, the 328k is fine for most stuff but 201k sounds thin and very flat, it's horrid.

I have all my stuff on my iPhone as lossless, 320k mp3 for dance but anything classical, jazz, acoustic is lossless, so AD2P is not for me.

And then they claim that music is in their DNA!

iPhone is already seeing strong competition. By making people choose to upgrade docks and force some devices into obsolescence I'm not sure that this will work in their favour.

I think most people will continue to buy anyway.

Apple are able to appeal to the kind of buyer who doesn't even know phones have an operating system so don't care about the spec.

These are the same people who now have their entire music collection LOCKED into iTunes but who dont care because it just works.

This is actually a lot closer to the truth than many will want to admit

There will be Dock adaptors to plug in which will accept bluetooth.

Everything intergrated nicely in my w211 with the ipod kit and the Iphone 4 cradle, i wont be upgrading anytime soon!

may upgrade the wifes phone to iphone 4 now they will be getting cheaper 2nd hand ;)

Don't see the problem myself, if you don't lke it and it's no use to you; don't buy it!

I've got an iPhone 4 and didn't want or need to upgrade to the 4s and I'll not be upgrading to the 5 either.

This phone does everything I need it too, so why bother 'upgrading'?

It will eventually wear out.

Surely, they will release an airplay "puck" that will plug into the vehicle using the existing connector.

Sorry if that's naive...i don't know all the ins and outs of apple products - too expensive for me!!

wont be rushing to get one... will wait for my contract to expire late 2013 by which time there will be a 5S!

From: George Mallory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

'Mallory is famously quoted as having replied to the question "Why do you want to climb Mount Everest?" with the retort "Because it's there", which has been called "the most famous three words in mountaineering".http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Mallory#cite_note-7http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Mallory#cite_note-8 There have been questions over the authenticity of the quote, and whether Mallory actually said it. Some have suggested that it was a paraphrase by a newspaper reporter, but scrutiny of the original report in the New York Times leaves this unresolved. The phrase was certainly consistent with the direct quotes cited in the New York Times report, so it appears not to misrepresent Mallory's attitude.'

Yes, the adapters are fine if you are connecting to a mains charger or 'loose' wired connection but no use for a fully enclosed fitting like the car phone cradle.

As stated a dummy phone adapter that fits in the cradle in place of your phone which then transmits to the new phone will no doubt make an appearance but at what cost?

Might be just as cheap to replace the whole cradle.

We have a PURE Dab radio in the kitchen which is ace for lobbing the iPhones in if ya need a quick charge before heading out the door but this is a wobbly connection at best so doubt it would last 5 mins if an adapter has to go in the radio first then a new taller phone has to then pearch on top of that!

Will only end in tears! :wallbash:

let's get this right, Apple have ****ed up big time with this, no one else.
Changing the specs the way they have means that any car kit, radio, hifi etc. made so far is no longer any good.

From the info on the adpater on the Apple store...."This adapter lets you connect devices with a Lightning connector to many of your 30-pin accessories.* Video and iPod Out not supported."

I would imagine that many oem producers who have backed Apple in the passed may think twice about their partnership in the future.

Seems I cannot edit my previous comment. Looks like I should have been more clear that the comment was supposed to be sarcastic about the "fact" how MB owners expect MB to fix issues that did not exist before Apple did something even if they acknowledge that everything works with another phone (I thought the smilies were enough).

My example is the lack of BT dial-up profile. Apple prefers BT PAN, which actually is a good approach but since the legacy world is dependent on BT dial-up, Apple should not have left that out (this is not a technical issue for Apple, for other reasons they wanted to disable BT dial-up.

Sorry about another post on this topic (even off-topic) but I wanted to clarify that I'm on the same side as those who "criticised my view (or the impression they got from my message).

Hopefully things will actually work smoothly for all new iPhone owners.

Does it have a swappable battery? No, you have to buy a new phone

Does it have a memory slot? No, you have to buy a higher priced phone if you want more memory.

Can I put my own apps on it? No, you may only install apps of Apple's choosing.

Sounds great, where do I bend over?

Crack the iPhone it's very easy to do and you can put any soft wear on it you like. Apps then become free also no need to pay for them. Try to use tethered when cracking I tend to find less problems. Hope this helps :-)

After 5 years or more with an iPhone I will not be upgrading, my main reason for using one is the iPod and the fact most kit like above is designed to work with them, now that is no longer the case I may as well move over to something else or just stick with what I have and move onto a nice £13 a month tariff.

For me the whole point of an iphone was that it was simple to use, had email, internet and above all would connect to the kitchen radio, both cars, the hifi system and my portable speaker dock.

Is it really true that the iphone 5 will be next to useless with all these items?

I just can't believe that Apple is expecting people to upgrade everything to work with their product!!!

Looks like I too with be changing to a 'cheap as chips' tariff now.
