hi all

Mrs JB did a sync etc this morning and updated her 16gig iPhone 3, all good. She then updated itunes software etc with the phone still attached and it all went ***s up, saying phone needed restoring but pc needed restart first. restarted with phone disconnected, attempting to restore but it keeps saying restore failed as backup was unsuccessful. Really hoping all is not lost as contacts etc gone.
Anyone good with apple? Maybe thinking some way of "turning the clock back" on the system (i am not technical).
Any ideas good people? Please?
TIA

iTunes creates a backup of your phone every time you sync. Once iTunes is back up and running, connect iPhone and restore the phone. Provided iTunes created a backup, you should be able to apply it to the phone.

Make sure you are logged into i tunes before you restore

yeah there should be more than one log from which she can restore her phone (previous times she connected and synced it in the past...)
hope she gets sorted!

The backup wasnt completed correctly according to iTunes.

any idea how i use a previous backup?
its a bit of a nightmare, this :(

In i-tunes (devices) you should be able to ctrl right click on your connected i-phone. Then restore from back up. This should then give you list of previous back ups.

Sorry Bruce, when I right click I get eject or open in new window which shows the restore screen in the summary. No other options.

Are you holding the ctrl key when using right click? I am using a macbook. Ctrl & Rightclick should give a drop down with:
Eject
Sync
Transfer Purchases
Backup
Restore From Back Up (This is what you want)
Reset Warnings

When you click Restore From Backup you should get another dropdown listing most recent backups that you can select. Failing that try Google.. There are several good sites that may help. Or call your local Apple store in the morning. You could try another PC with Itunes installed. However that may reset your phone...

doesnt work fr me Bruce - see the screenshot

Not sure what to suggest apart from giving Apple a call. You could try switching off the phone and removing the SIM then leave it for a couple of hours and try again. However you are probably best giving apple a call or looking up their website.

Sorry.

Bruce

No worries Bruce i'll ring them tomorrow cheers

what's the error code (often gives one).

Also, try a hard restore (google if unsure)

Unable to try the system restore option as "there is no restore point" :(

I had a total mare recently with my IPhone, similar problem; phone was as good as dead. Phone was in some sort of restore mode but iTunes kept failing when restoring. I couldn't use any of my backups and had to start afresh. I ended up installing iTunes onto a new computer and doing a fresh sync with that which worked although set the phone up as brand new. Then I uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes on my original PC and synced all fine.

Yep thats what i did in the end....thanks to all
