Hi

My wife has just got the new A180 AMG Sport which has the Audio 20 system as standard. I have tried to plug an iPod (various versions) into the USB port and the system can't recognise it. The dealer says this is normal. Call me cynical, but I am not 100% convinced they actually know whether it is or not and the manual is too generic to give any specific answer. My son's iPod touch will play through the Bluetooth connection, but I was hoping to control the iPod from the Audio unit like you can on the Audio 50 in my E200. Can anyone advise me? Thanks! David - ps the car is great in all other respects.

My car has the same system, and has the Ipod lead fitted, I am working away from home at the mo, so I am unable to have a look to see how the cable is terminated.

From what I remember you need the media Interface to control it what is extra or comes with audio 20 with cd changer

This what it says pal

Media Interface allows connection and control of portable media devices (e.g. MP3 player, USB storage media) via ports in the glove compartment. Cables included for aux-in, USB or iPod® connectivity

Thanks for the replies. I think the Audio 20 on my wife's car must be slightly different to previous versions. It comes standard with a USB port and also a 1/8" jack input in the cubby hole by the gear stick. I have tried the iPod with it's normal lead plugged into the USB port, but the system doesn't recognise it - hence my question.

You need the Mercedes Media cable.

Thanks everyone - I think I have the complete picture now as confirmed by a phone call to command online!

The multi-cd version of the Audio 20 has the option to add the media interface people have been referring to.

The single CD version in my wife's car doesn't have this option but hers is pre-wired with two inputs I mentioned in the centre cubby hole, ie the usb port and the 3.5mm jack input (and a bluetooth connection too). Ipod compatability is planned for a future firmware update.

So the solution is - to wait!

ps command online seem to know what they are about - pity my local dealer doesn't seem to know as much about the product!

I have just purchased a brand new CLA 220 and it has the same issues you describe - USB port in centre console but iPod Touch comes up as 'device unreadable'. Can you confirm that MBknow all about this and we have to 'wait'?? For how long?? Shame my dealer tried to make out that I probably just had a faulty cable!! Wouldn't have stopped me buying this fab car, but little things like this annoy me (for this amount of money!)

The USB connection is for USB pendrive and harddrives with mp3 files. Mercedes dont advertise it as supporting Ipod. You need media interface for Ipod connectivity or you can connect it va bluetooth.
