After picking up my E350 today, one of the first things I did was connect my Ipod Nano and leave it in the glove box.

Just wondered whether anyone knows - does it charge the Ipod when being used, and does it cut power to it when the ignition is off?

Is your Nano a Gen 5? If so it doesn't charge at all with the current MB lead sets. MB are supposed to be coming out with a lead that does charge the latest iPod's, but I'm unaware when.

It is 4th Generation. Will have a play with it tonight and see how it works if I get chance.

So much to play with :)

Apple changed the voltage used for charging when they went from USB only, previously it was USB and firewire. I think USB can draw a higher voltage. Therefore any charging equipment that is from the firewire generation won't work on the last couple of generation of Ipods but the latest chargers will work on older generation.

My ipod hasn't left my coupe since I took delivery in December. It has remained fully charged works perfectly. That said, I am removing it tonight for my trip overseas. Will be interesting to see how well it now retains its charge....

My ipod lives in the the car and always works so I presume that it is being charged!!

My ipod has worked perfectly since stopping the cold air feed to the glovebox. The ipod stopped playing and there was a message on the ipod screen saying it was not charging, but when disconnected from the car the ipod showed fully charged but felt really cold.

As I said no problems since turning off the cold air blower in the glovebox.:bannana:

Noticed now that when the cable is connected to my 4th Gen Nano, a MB logo comes on screen (on the Ipod) and it says something along the lines of "charging not supported".

Does anyone know if the latest Ipod Classic (6th Gen 2nd Revision 160GB model) will charge, as I might pick one up for use in the car - the Nano doesn't hold all my music any way (by quite some way :)).

Any update on that? Am keen to know if current 160gb iPod classic works with W212 COMAND (playing and charging)

6th gen iPod will not charge without an adapter.

Just have a look on ebay for a 5v to 12v ipod charging adapter...

M.
