Hi, I managed to get hold of the iPod interface kit for the CL203.
However it doesn't have an installation manual.

Can somebody help?

Thanks

The install is pretty much a matter of removing the radio and glovebox. The control unit goes just under the A-pillar. The wiring goes into the same hole as the AUX connector normally goes only you have to carve the 18.8mm hole into a 20mm hole.

The MOST wiring is on the back of the body harness and needs to be moved over to the head unit which is now connected by the iPOD apapter harness.

Have a look at this attempt and some of the simple problems they had to deal with after making a mistake with the fibre optic connection.

Sounds great - where did you get one from? I don't really fancy paying MB labour rates for fitting!

I fitted one to my other half's C270 last week with no real problems except that if not enabled for phone , then the buttons on the steering wheel are not activated & cannot scroll properly thru the menus. So it is necessary to get the OBC programmed to 'phone present' via Star Diagnosis at the dealer or a friendly MB specialist who has the software - takes abt 10 mins.

BTW, the kits are like gold dust at the moment - I was told by local dealer none in stock at MB UK or Germany, but he did tell me the names of half dozen or so dealers that still had stock in the UK - I think less than 20 units in total.

I certainly recommend - real bees knees. No more CD changers for me!!!

Good luck

Hello again,

thanks for your replies. I have a problem though, it seems like my iPod cable-connector
does not have all the wires shwon in this doc:

I took some pix of what I have. Is anything wrong? Is this interface the right one for the CL203?

Thanks

It looks to me that you may have a different set up on the CL203 compared to the C270. The kit I installed was MB 67 82 4213 & comprised of a black box and a couple of cables; one, a fairly hefty 'Y' cable to connect to the head unit, existing cable & input to the black box, the other to connect the black box to the ipod. The SLK install shown in IPOD2.pdf etc seems to include a third cable - an interface harness. My guess is that is required for vehicles that are not 'ipod ready' leaving the factory. 2005 onwards C Class are as far as I know. I don't know about the SLK or CL. It seems to me from your photos that the CL requires a bit more than the simple 'plug & play' of the C class.

Can't really offer any really helpful advise - sorry.

Different cars have different kits - there is no logic to it and the person that decided this was a good idea should be fired.

It is in fact car specific and if you really want to get confused then you should know that iPOD kits sold on eBay have home made cables just for laughs.

The phrase "iPod ready " or "pre-wired" is 100% urban myth just like the 2005 Audio 20 on the SLK with AUX input. For reasons unknown to me people seem to think that I dont know what I am talking about when I dispell these concepts.

...then what am I supposed to do to know if cabling is correct? Go to MB?

Yeah, I'm starting to think so....

Seriously dude , im not being sarcastic in the slightest , just some friendly advice if you dunno exactly what your tinkering with.

No worries, I am really thinking of bringing the car to MB, unless I manage to find info on the CL203 here...
