I have just been reading the online version of the manual for this. The manual refers to the new c class. It says that iPod video playback is possible, but then in a foot note it refers to this being possible on the new E class models.

I was wondering if anyone has fitted one to a W204 and if so, does it play videos?

Thanks.

The ipod kit with video support is not compatible with the W204 c class. Its for hard disk based comand systems except, new C, CL, SL, S and new E class.

You have a choice for audio ipod with the ipod kit (audio 20 or Comand) or the media interface (comand).

Actually, an iPod video kit for W204 is just about to be available (if not already) from Mercedes and i'm sure it will be stocked by COL once Alfie has installed one and we have some decent install instructions as coding will probably be needed.

HOWEVER, I would always install the Media Interface if possible - which allows you to control it all from the COMAND screen/controller (with std. Ipod kit & iPod video, you have to control it from the cluster display) - a far better experience.

The media interface gives you ipod, USB and video/audio (3.5mm) inputs. (If your W204 has reversing camera or TV then you don't get the video function, only 1 video input on W204 comand). So, with one of those fancy 4 way 3.5mm A/V leads you should be able to feed audio & video into the system.

If the media interface definately plays video, I would go down that road and retrofit it myself. I looked at your instructions as it doesnt look too bad. Trouble is finding someone to code it near me. Do you know anyone around the Edinburgh / Glasgow areas who can do coding?

By the way, whats the fancy 4 way cable?

Thanks

It definetly plays video (you have to plug the video cable in !!) - you probably need the MB dealer to do it - the instructions in my doc should be enough - they'll probably be quite intruiged to see a MI retrofit !!

The fancy 4 way cable is a 3.5mm 4 way jack plug at one end and 3 x RCA/Phono plugs at the other, left audio, right audio and composite video

where do you get it? Does comand.co.uk sell it? Also, your instructions are spot on, Im sure I can do this myself. I dont think my local dealer will code it for me thought, they are funny about things like that.

Look here :-

Comand Online Ltd :: iPod Kits :: C class, GLK class (new, W204)

Get the media interface kit for RHD cars (assuming yours is RHD !!)

I found most dealers were happy to take money if they're told exactly what to do (hand them the instructions) - it definetly needs coding though

Richard

ps, dont forget to ask for the mbclub discount (as you have enough posts etc to qualify) !!!
