iPod Passcode Help Needed Please.

We bought our son an iPod touch for his birthday and because of his younger siblings trying to play on it, he decided to put a Passcode on it.

Which he has now forgot...:wallbash:

I've plugged the iPod into iTunes that it's synced with and done a factory restore, yet it's still asking for the Passcode. I thought it would all simply reset when I did this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try Google. But I believe that you have to take it into an Apple Store. It will eventually lock up completely if you keep trying the wrong code.

If they have synchronised everything to a pc or iCloud you can simply plug the iPod into another pc that has iTunes installed, if I recall you need to press and hold the menu and power on button until the iPod resets (apple symbol) then the new iTunes will say that the iPod is synchronised to another computer and ask you if you would like reset to factory settings. You can then do the same with the original pc that the iPod was synchronised with but this time transfer purchases that way you won't put the old settings back on.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll try to sort it out tomorrow.

All sorted.

The trick was to plug the iPod into the laptop to sync with iTunes, then do the DFU thing (turn device off, press home & power button for ten seconds, release power button while keeping the home button pressed for another ten seconds) and the iPod does a complete wipe. I'm now restoring music and games from a previous synch.

Thanks for your help, Buce and SavMan.

Son is barred from using said iPod for a week in punishment of said crime.
