Is in-car DAB worth it?

I found the whole of my foray into the DAB world really annoying.

Worst of all there appears to be a conspiracy of silence amongst broadcasters and Ofcom so that we, the users, will only find the truth about quality degradation when FM radio is switched off!

Interesting to note that the Advertising Standards Authority has recently upheld a complaint about DAB radio maker using misleading language concerning reception quality.

So true. Apparently during peak times when more people will be listening and the shows will be more popular they intend to compress the shows more to allow more shows at the same time - thus reducing quality further!

I bought a Bush Idaptor.

Fired it up earlier on a portable TV and it's great :)

Don't know if it'll be any good in the car but I've nearly sold it to my parents ;)

For the car Headunit I can get a TV tuner Ipod adaptor DAB radio plugin. Also external video in and another for reverse camera.

All of the above are expensive in terms of the amount I would use them. With the exception of the Ipod adapter the would be essential.

So I was thinking Freeview receiver. Not looked into it but i presume its would work with an adapter to convert the scart into video & audio phono that I could then plug into my aux input.

Might have to get an extension lead to the car and stick the portable aerial on the car roof.

EDIT* Yet another thread on this forum causing me to spend more money

Scart to phono
Aerial (Thats the tricky one) Not sure where to put it or what to use. Would signal boosters be any good?

Right... DAB, well I recently fitted a Goodmans (yes I know) DAB & MP£ CD unit into my VAN, not my car... Was £59.99+vat in MAkro, and had a small box on a lead hanging off the back, BUT it used the standard Citroen Dispatch aerial, and the DAB reception has been brilliant and faultless!!!

On a more upmarket note, this week I have fitted into my ML, a flipdown 8" screen on the roof, complete with 4 pairs of infrared headphones (4 kids) also a PS2, DVD player and mobile DVB-T Freeview tuner... Freeview works fine when stationary, but not when over 20mph... Looks like I'll have to look into an amplified antenna....

THIS ONE...

Also, got an amplifier from Maplin today - £9.99, tiny thing, and it has made a world of dirfference, pic is now fine upto about 70'ish... and that'll do for me!

Looks ideal. Are you using the aerial that came with it?

Also do you have the link or maplin product number. Sounds Ideal.

*EDIT* Seems you got it at a good price too for what they are letting them go at now  .
