Is it always A, B, A, B, A, B ... ?

Hi Guys

I've got a low mileage (11,500) 2014 CL500 and it had an A service done at around 4,000 miles, and when I bought the car off a dealer (Main Mercedes dealer) they carried out another A service FoC as part of the deal (at 11,300 miles).

Now I spoke to my local MB dealer about getting a copy of my service record and they say that it had the wrong service done and that it should go A, B, A, B, A, B ... so I rang the service department where I got the car from and they said that its not necessarily true that it has to be A B A B A B even though that is generally the rule in most cases. He said that they plugged my car into their service computer and only carried out things that needed to be done, which turned out to be an A service.

Now... who is correct?

Normally the services should indeed go A B A B etc.

But it would seem that the first service was done way before time, making the second service the first real (on-time) service.

So the service following should be a B. (IMHO)

The service reqts are set out in your service handbook. It's quite straightforward, car is due a service every 12 months / 15000 (15,500?, I can't check at the moment), whichever occurs first.

They run A, B, A, B, A, B etc.

A is oil/filter change and various 'checks'.
B will include pollen filter and brake fluid on year 2, 4, 6 etc

B will then add air filter, fuel filter (diesels) at year 4, 8 etc

IIRC, MB approved cars will have any servicing due in next 3 months carried out prior to sale.

In my view, your car will be due a B service at 2 years of age (when was it regd?) unless the second A service also had brake fluid and pollen filter done as 'extras'. I doubt that was the case. Funnily enough, an A service is cheaper than a B :D

I would suggest you clarify the position as a requirement of the 3 year warranty is 'serviced according to service schedule', or whatever wording they use.

Also be aware that the 2 and 4 year items (brake fluid every 2, fuel and air filters every 4) are considered "extras" and are thus not included in the basic B service price! There may be other trip items on a CL - like ATF fluid/filter change (37k miles on a facelift 204 for instance), spark plugs (on a 500 - ouch!) etc!

Car was registered March 2014
First service was in Feb 2015 at 4,000 miles or so
And then when I picked up the car the computer wasn't saying service due. I can't remember what service the car wanted, it might have been saying service B or C, but it was definitely not due, which is weird because it's been 1 and a half year since it last had its service.
It has spent a lot of time being still though, especially as it was sold to the trade quite a few months ago and then went through auction. It wasn't really driven before that much either. Is the ASSYST Plus computer clever enough to take all these things into account?

Just to complicate it even further, it was built November 2012. This car has had a very boring life thus far.

Older models had variable service intervals, up to 2 years, and the car determined when a service was due based upon the way in which it was drive. However I thought a car registered 2014 would be back on fixed interval servicing. Strange. Have you asked your dealer?

They stopped the variable servicing quite a few years ago, well before 2012 (possibly 2008?).

It's quite feasible that the car has been parked with the battery disconnected, I think that will 'stall' the service countdown. Or it might have been 'tweaked' part way through the year.

The service booklet is your best bet to confirm what needs doing at each service. Your car should have the 7g+ gearbox, so ATF fluid change should be every 5 years/ 75000 miles; the earlier ones were a one-off change at 3 years.

In theory, even with the low mileage, it should have had a B service in March 2016.

Lovely cars, by the way.

Yeah that's what I thought it should have had. But clearly hasn't lol.

The main dealer service department said in an email to me that my warranty hasn't been affected, so at least I've got something
