With the finger being pointed at easy targets, how long is it before buying an AMG (for example) becomes an unrealstic dream for us? I'm tempted to break the bank and buy a used one before the government/EU ruin one of the only pleasures in life. It's not just the threat of increased tax on manufacturers, it's also the widely talked about increased car tax on more powerful cars.

There is a case for doing just as you say. And it is getting cheaper by the day to live the dream. Several dealers I've talked to say it is becoming almost impossible to sell large petrols at anywhere near sensible money now fuel is over £1 a litre.

As one example the part ex price in Glass's Guide for a 56 plate E55 (1 year old ) is £32,000 compared with a new price with modest extras of close to £70,000.

Thats good news for me then.

Hoping to upgrade the the w211 E55 some time next year

It's not all that bad. the G450 (I think that is the type) MB has an output of 185g/km CO2 with the V8/hybrid biodiesel thing.

What's sad is that the focus on CO2 is basically to increase government income from road tax and will encourage more people to have more small cars increasing overall congestion and the oil will continue to be used in that way (at 3litre/100km or at 20litre/100km).

I emailed AMG a while back about the new E5 ethanol fuel we are getting here and they said they had never tried it, so maybe they will build for whatever is available.
