is it possible?

Sp!ke:

Judging by the number of posts you have made on this forum, I find your numerical accuracy hard to believe...

I have previously mentioned here that I once drove over 220 miles toward Clermont Ferrand in just under two hours. Result? Drained the tank and my eyes were out on stalks.

Have a serious word with yourself!

possible, but depends on how much is urban driving

800 ish miles total..

id say success chance is 6/10

road works, getting lost and various other unforeseen circumstances are why i say 6 out of 10

Good Luck.. I suspect the 9 hour drive will be more rewarding, even if it ends up being 10 or 11 hrs ;)

Even if it was only 800 miles, this would have to be an average speed of 88.88mph (9 hour trip). Allowing for fuel stops and traffic, the average speed would have to be even higher than that. So where possible the car's max speed would need to be used...where exactly would that be? This is an impossible task!!!

Is that aimed at me if so please elborate:dk:

edit I guess not by the number of posts reference and my lowly 2902 compared to 75K +

> Flannia St Tropez to West London is 864 miles, Krakow to Calais is about 880 miles.

If 10 hours is easy on the St Tropez run with no autobarns and worse traffic (A2/M25)then I'm confused why you think shaving an hour off should be such a problem on the Krakow route given the much better conditions and significantly faster car.

Sorry Krakow - Calais is well in excess of 900 miles, st trop to UK is a much better run than Krakow - Calais driving in Poland at high speed is just not a nice experience.

I did st trop to Doncaster in an Evo 8 significantly faster than what you are contemplating in a S600, sorry but having driven in Europe for the last 30 years krakow - Calais in 9 hours can't be done :dk:

I have another problem with the accuracy of the numbers, for ages the forum front page said Dieselman was the top poster right up until last month at just over 19,310 posts, all of a sudden we have a 75k + poster now if my maths are right DM stopped posting in October last year 9 months ago the top poster now is on 75,737 posts so assuming DM was still the top poster in october last year to get to 75k+ the poster would have had to make in excess of 200 posts per day over the lst 9 months. Now either someones maths is really sh*t, admin & mods post counts rack up at 100 times a normal member or there is some serious BS going on?

Not spotted it until Del 320 highlighted it anyone care to offer an explanation :dk:

LOL.. I guessed you missed the earlier postcount thread where I multiplied my postcount by ten in jest for the thread.

I'll put it back to what it should be since it seems to now be an issue. :)

[edit] actually I just added a 7 in front so I didnt lose track - now corrected for you.

The heading on Del320's post was "Spike:" so it was pointed at Spike alone.

I have to agree driving in Poland at high speeds is not safe first of all, but the Poland part of the trip is quite short and motorway is good.

Speaking of the cars I think both evo 8 and s600 have enough power to do this, but in this case s600 has advantages is quiet and comfortable ;)

Sorry yes I did miss it, not an issue at all, Just that maths and stats are my strong point so when it was highlighted I was intrigued. Bit of a liberty being a mod though, lead by example play by the rules and all that :) Particularly as it affects the front page top poster and as we know some would do anything they can to try and pretend Dieselman never existed. Not that that is aimed at you so please don't think I am having a go, I'm really not:thumb:.

I agree but the Dresden to Dortmund stretch through Germany is not a good one, about just less than a third of the journey is in Poland, I used to drive from Katowice just North of Krakow Poland back to the UK regular (as I was our Country manager for Poland for 3 years) up to Calais or Dunkeque to get the ferry to UK, at that time I was driving a Volvo V70 T5 so I know 9 hours is impossible and I'm a Class 1 Police Driver Instructor

The Evo 8 was on the way back from the South of France for a racing team I used to do some work with, happy days :D

It seems like you've done the exact route a number of times before so how long do you think it'll take?

I reckon you would stand a chance at 11 hours if you got the timings right through Germany (Middle of the night) but that would be pushing it. I've not done it fo a while but if I remember correctly I used to leave Katowice after breakfast 7am ish and used to get the 10pm ferry, that gave me a clear run back up North in the UK at that time. Theres also a short cut you can take from either Essen or Eindhoven (cant remember which, my memory is bad these days:doh:) that misses the Brussels ring which saves further time at night or in the early hours as it cuts the corner off on the run down to Calais.

If you go for it good luck but stay safe better to arrrive late or miss the ferry than not arrive at all. :thumb:

the Dresden to Dortmund stretch through Germany is not a good one

For information, this stretch is pretty quick now that the A38 is fully open, even though Google maps satellite view (and my Garmin) still shows it as incomplete. Last month I did Leipzig to Dortmund in 2hrs 45 mins, (average of 96 mph) on a Sunday late afternoon (no trucks), doing 130mph where possible (flat out in a Lexus IS200). Even in the light traffic, it was impossible to hold a decent speed for more than a few minutes at a time due to slower traffic. (From Dortmund, the best route is Essen, Venlo, Eindhoven, Antwerp (although the ring can be a pig at certain times), Ghent, Jabeke, Dunkirk , Calais. There's loads of roadworks all over the Ruhr as usual). My average speed from Dortmund-Calais was 60mph.
I agree that an average of 102mph (which is what this trip needs to do it in 9 hours) is totally impossible over this distance.

Didn't know the A38 was now open but not done that run for a few years, but thanks for the update, good to know for the future.:thumb:

I have done this route and can assure you that in normal (average circumstances) you would be lucky if you did it in 13 hours.
11 hours is impossible and probably has never been done!
To try to achieve it you will have to have:
1) No rain. If it does, then maximum speed will be 60 mph even in German derestricted Autobahns.
2) No road works. You will have at least 5 sections of roadworks whichever route you chose.
3) No traffic Jams. or accidents on your way.
4) you average 105mph.
5) No Police stops.
6) You fill up with fuel once and extremely quickly.
7) You eat / drink / wee otherwise in the car
I have done the 2.5 hour shorter segment of Wroclaw to Calais in 11 hours dead. And, I was very lucky with traffic and road works. Wroclaw will be on your way to calais.
And, I was driving up to 135 mph in a very eager and relatively new 3 litre Nissan Maxima QX.
I have done it more leisurely in a W124 E280 in just over 13 hours.
I have also done Warsaw to Calais in my C180. This is almost the same distance as Krakow to Calais. Took me 17 hours. But then, there was only a short segment Motorway in Poland between Warsaw and Poznan.
Plan for 13 - 15 hours and you will enjoy it. Be prepared for a maximum of 18 hours if unlucky.

What a lovely idea:
How about the 4000 mile London - Berlin - Moscow - Vienna - Stuttgart - London.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think a "Mercedes only" Gumball 3000 has ever been organised!
Who knows, a night or two may be thrown in for free in a mansion of a Russian Mercedes enthusiast Oligarch.

Just a light hearted thought, not to be taken seriously!

You could always do the UK unofficial (of course) Gumball done it once years ago too scary. A very underground event organised last minute for obvious reasons starts in Scotland and ends in the South thats as much as I'll say, some very interesting machinery takes part, would think it's a license loser these days though.

Spike, I like your Maths.

I will drive the car back for you for a tenner.
