In my view YES
It is worth doing a lot of research on who to use to service and maintain your car.
Servicing of a merc is relatively straightforward for any competent mechanic.
BUT, when it comes to fault finding, STAR "misdiagnosis's" by so called "experts" are commonplace and can cost us merc punters literally thousands of pounds in unnecessary work. This forum is littered with such tales.
There are decent independents about and the cost of travelling a hundred miles or more to use their services could save a fortune compared with the use of a local "expert" who turns out to be anything but.

The trip to Olly is a 130mile round trip. At my mpg that is effectively £25. (ignore opportunity cost of being on the road). Add in a discount for MB club, a generosity of approach to charging and even before you get to the basics of having cars done by someone you trust and is highly efficient, the extra cost has been lost long since.

Peace of mind is worth way more than 100 miles of travel, plus driving 100 miles is part of the fun.

I say yes.

Iv driven that far for such things as tyres & stainless exhaust fitting in the past, cos the deal involved was so good, so yes, travel.

Yes, absolutely. He is looking after my Merc, and I am also taking my wife's Renault to Olly.

I drive that distance to see Olly and get the car serviced there because he is not only good at his job, but he is fair and wont rip you off.
Yes it would be better if he was closer, but I don't think that I could convince him to move to Surbiton.
So I get a day out at Portsmouth, shopping with the wife each time I get a service etc.

I've been down to olly twice now from oxford area, worth the trip both times had a good amount of work done both times, and saved a lot more than i spent getting down there - well worth it.

Would go for the servicing too, but car was on an MB Service Plan deal pre-paid and thus maintains the mobilolife breakdown cover as well, which has been good the the time i needed to use it.
