I would expect quite a few of you are in the motor trade. Personally, I work at an independent HGV / LCV repair centre in the parts dept. We also have a huge recovery centre, bodyshop and car workshop and car sales.

May we were flat out, run ragged and like headless chickens:eek:. June we were busy but not quite as bad as May.

And July.... well I might as well have stayed in bed !

Usually with commercial the industry never really drops off, seeing as the majority of stuff through the gate is leasing.

I know there is a "recession" but its supposed to be on the upturn.
Is anyone else was seeing a big difference in July or am I just going mad:crazy:

My main client is a large Iveco and Ford commercial dealer and they report a very slow July so far. Actually, they've been slow for a couple of months now as my enquiry stats show.. :( Hopefully August will be better...

All I can say is that when I normally travel in Reading at rush hour its a nightmare....yesterday....hardly anything....where has everybody gone or has everybody been made redundant??????

Tried to get half a dozen people to-day...all on holiday. So I'm off.

welcome to David Camerons Britain. You were warned.

I thought the IMF was in charge?

Or was that ominous modern construction, ''the markets''?

I was surprised at how high new car sales were for June - 195,226, up almost 11% on June 2009 (Mercedes down 5% though). Scrappage sales have pretty well gone, so I'd have expected a biggish dip, especially with the uncertainty of the election etc.

Commercial vehicle sales seemed to continue their recovery, but still at way lower levels than a few years ago.

Holidays are a huge issue in the UK now - instead of most people taking time off in the school holidays, they seem to spread from Mid June to mid-Sept now. And it seems in many industries, December is a write off too. It only needs a bit of bad weather in Jan/Feb and we're only really working 6mths of the year!

So it's his few weeks in power, nothing to do with the pipedream of the last few years' overspending money we didn't have in the hope that economic growth would pull everyone out of the sh!t?

Blame the medicine, not the illness?

Sheffield Forgemasters not getting a loan is an act of criminal insanity. I at least thought that the Camerionians and Cleggies lot would have had a little business nouse about them.
It was a loan not a gift.
Hopefully the banks who were bailed out by us will arrange a loan for Sheffield Forgemasters at mates rates. Either that or HMG could force a loan (behind closed doors of course) out of one of the banks for them. Knighthood withheld for a bank MD, that sort of thing.

As Thatcher said:
MANUFACTURING DOESN'T MATTER.
THE FUTURE IS FINANCIAL SERVICES

Oh Yeahhhhhhhhh !!

I'm in motor trade too and end of June/July was quiet with a busy May, having said that it is the same every time there is the World Cup/European Championships are on. Folk spend their money differently...
