Is there a good parts stockist in the house?

A happy and healthy 2014 to all!

Who are the favourite parts stockists?

Neither EuroCarParts nor PFS (partsformercedes) are listing all items on my urgent shopping list. Shame, I've dealt with both in the past and would be happy to stay loyal if only they stocked my immediate needs.

If I go to online-parts.co.uk (MB York) I can't see whether my items are in stock or not and I'm not ready to pay those top-level prices unless I can be sure of rapid delivery. I'd be content to pay their creative prices up front - but not to subsequently hear terms like 'back order' or 'probably next week'.

My car (an S203 C32 AMG Estate of 2002 vintage) is VOR so here's a chance for a parts supplier to get me mobile and win some praise on this forum!

I don't insist on MB branding, I take the view that as these OE items have failed at just 90K miles there's a fighting chance that a 'pattern' brand will match or exceed OEM quality.

These bits are vital and urgent:-

112 202 01 19 (Pulley, smooth)
112 202 00 19 (Washer - if not included with Pulley item above)
112 997 00 92 (Serpentine belt 8PK2902-2908)

The remaining one I could install subsequently. I intend to change it only as a precaution but it obviously makes sense to do it while the belt is off, if possible:-

120 200 04 70 (Pulley, ribbed)

It's annoying because I can locate all the necessary bits in the USA in an instant and save a few bob in the process. Shipping time is the only downside and on this occasion it's kinda crucial.

Thanks for your ears!

Jerry

Thanks AMGeed, personal recommendations are always valuable.

However, the website doesn't find any pulleys for C32 and gives me no idea whether the parts are even recognised let alone in stock. When I try to send a mail enquiry through their contact form I find it runs out of space before I've listed the third part number!

So I sent an 'open' email to them in stead of using their contact page - but many potential customers would have given up and moved on by now.

That standard is fairly typical of UK websites - including the few attempts by M-B franchised dealers to sell parts online. Site functionality is often very poor indeed. Of 2 M-B dealer owned parts websites I found, one didn't recognise any of the required parts and the other can't be bothered to answer enquiries received through their online contact form, so why have the contact form at all?

Wake up Britain, there is much e-Commerce to be won but as things are you don't deserve the custom!

For those interested, just look at this USA website for comparison...

Search - RM European Auto Parts

RMEuropean will airfreight to UK so I'll probably just have to be patient for a few days. If I do get stung for import duty it will still be quicker (and cheaper?) than waiting for the UK to wake up and smell the i-coffee!

Very unlikely to find low volume parts like those pulleys anywhere but an MB dealer sorry. Not worth the UK aftermarket guys stocking them. The Poly V belt will be standard Contitech product available from any Contitech specialist- ECP do them I think even if not listed online.

edit;- Savman beat me to it-- and he can supply em. :thumb:

CarParts4Less just bounced my open email - which was sent to the address indicated on their website. I give up.

SavMan...

Many thanks indeed for drawing my attention.

Given that my original M-B pulley(s) failed at just 90K miles I would be uncomfortable replacing with genuine parts. Seems odd to say that about M-B & AMG but I'm just being practical.

Also given the Eurocharged reputation I'll be delighted to fit a set of your alloy pulleys at the offer price so long as they are available within a few days.

What form of off-forum contact do you prefer? You can have the cash now and I can get on with my work knowing the kit is on its way!

Many thanks,

Jerry

Pulley's we have, let me check on belt and washer

Send me your contact details by email to [email protected] I will come back to you.

Couldn't agree more, Mike. Hence my original posting of this thread - but I expected corporate response(s) on weekdays, not weekends!

Paul @ Eurocharged has blown a chunk of his Sunday out for me and I'm hugely grateful. One day his website will allow me to find the required parts, tick a few boxes and place my order while he sits at home with his feet up.

Nevertheless this kind of personal service is bound to gain Eurocharged a bank of new customers - I sincerely hope so, they deserve it. What a contrast with certain official M-B dealership groups!

Impressed of Norfolk.

For anyone following this string, here's today's update for interest...

Before Monday morning's coffee time I had received confirmation that a full set of specialist performance pulleys (upper deflection guide, tensioner pulley and the item M-B insist on calling a 'belt tightener' which it isn't) along with a new serpentine belt would be delivered to me PDQ.

You'll be as surprised as me to learn that the wholly inclusive delivered cost of the kit works out at no more than replacing the set with the famously inferior but genuine M-B items. Plus - the free advice I received when talking to Paul by phone was priceless, some of it relative to the pulleys and belt but a whole lot of really handy guidance on keeping my car on top form.

I opted to take advantage of the Eurocharged special 'overstock' offer on the set of three alloy pulleys rather than just replacing the one failed item because this forum has already taught us that the C/SLK 32K & SRT6 original pulleys are weak in construction and have short lived bearings. If I am to avoid repeated breakdowns in the serpentine belt handling department I need to eliminate the two weaknesses which haven't yet failed as well as the one that has.

Now that Paul at Eurocharged (UK) has tapped his magic wand on my pulley problem the only negative element to report is that I had originally visited his website and was unable to locate the bits. Yes, I know that Paul had detailed them on this forum previously but I hadn't seen the thread(s) and am probably not alone in that. In an ideal world a Google search for “AMG pulley” should have landed me at Eurocharged.uk.com but I know better than most the challenges this presents.

I reckon that the website will receive ongoing development in due course so that we can all do our shopping online without the need to issue challenges on the Club forum!

For me the lesson is clear – don't assume that Eurocharged can't help just because the problem isn't presently addressed online. Smell the coffee, get in touch, feel the magic.

Meanwhile I just can't praise Eurocharged enough. Certainly my procurement problem has been eliminated with a majestic level of professionalism that most M-B retailers couldn't hope to match (and in some cases probably don't care). If the personal attention provided by Paul on a Sunday (hello? Sunday?) wasn't enough to ghast your flabber then the lightning quick efficiency on Monday morning surely would be.

Once the kit is installed I shall enjoy a renewed confidence in my car. A confidence I might have missed had I replaced original equipment like-for-like.

Paul, my sincere thanks.

Jerry.
