Is this a bargain...?

A few years ago? how did you post a picture of your car when you only joined us in May 23 ?

I might not be the brightest in the world.....but I do struggle to believe that anyone would fall for these car scams.
I know someone who unfortunately fell hook line and sinker for an eBay scam for a British caravan which was in Greece as it had been used by an ex-pat whilst they refurbed a property.

They paid a very substantial 50% deposit when they received confirmation from the shipping agent that they had taken delivery of the caravan and sent a tracking link to show it’s exact location at the docks.

After paying the substantial deposit the caravan should have set off on a ship a few days later. He checked the tracking link and the shipping company’s website was unfortunately no longer available.

He was a worldly wise person who was internet savvy and wasn’t fooled easily. He mentioned it to me when he first spotted it and I said it seemed dodgy, but he just have enquired and got hooked.

The Police didn’t want to know, and as they lured him outside or eBay then there was no buyer protection either, so he lost around £9k if I remember right. Very sad that this is happening to people every day.

Us caravan dealers......all the same! As much as I feel sorry for him, he did make some very basic and, to me at least, obvious no no's.

Yes, for whatever reason, even people who would normally spot a scam from umpteen paces can get sucked in too. The warning signs were clear to all but him.

Hello,
I did not have enough time to sell the vehicle before my departure from England and since I am in Scotland now there are only 2 ways to do this sale:

* The first option is to use a transport company that deals with the transaction, vehicle and money as escrow. I travel for my work and I do not have time to bring the vehicle and I think your free time is limited too, so this is the perfect way to make things easier, faster and safe for both of us. I will pay the company, so you will not pay extra money then the vehicle price. You will get the vehicle to your home address, and you can check the vehicle before making the final decision. I think this is the perfect way for us.

* The second option is by using eBay&PayPal as an escrow holding funds during delivery and 7 day inspection period. More information here:
Understanding returns policies

Please let me know how you want to continue with this transaction and I can call you for more details.

Does that involve paying anything before the car is delivered, by any chance? If so, it's a scam.

What you mean like Cazoo, Cinch etc ....which take full payment before delivery??....its not always a scam. Most proper main dealers wont deliver a car without a chunky (but returnable deposit).

Hi,

I can only speak at night when I am at home. 07355488239. We can do everything through the transport company using Sply, they will take care of everything and arrange the delivery to your address. If this is going to be a quick sale, I will let it go for £11,000 with the delivery charges included. If you decide to buy the vehicle let me know, as I have a lot of people inquiring about it and send me an email with your full details (Full name, Address, Phone number). As soon as I have your details I will pass them to the shipping company and they will start the procedures. Next step they will get in touch with you and send you an invoice for the vehicle, the tracking number to check the status of the delivery at any time and all the rest of the transaction details. After you've received the invoice you'll need to make the payment by bank transfer to the transport company (NOT to me) and they will hold the money into their bank account until you receive, inspect and agree to keep the vehicle. For the buyer's peace of mind I've also added a 7 days REFUND POLICY so if you don't like the vehicle, you'll receive a full refund, no fees or taxes deducted. If the vehicle is not as described, the transport company will transfer the money back into your bank account. If you decide to keep the vehicle after the 7 days inspection period, you will need to sign the owner transfer papers and only then I will get the money from the transport company.

No, I mean like a shipping company you've never heard of which 'holds the money in escrow' and then, surprise surprise, the car never turns up and you never get a reply to any emails, letters or messages, and your bank doesn't want to know because you've been such a mug.

I'd need a pole a lot longer than ten feet for that car...
