Mercedes E350 Coupe
Is it normal being a 34 year guy and feeling like Christmas is never gonna come.

I am eagerly awaiting for the 23rd of September to arrive when I get to go to Germany and collect my new E350 Sport coupe with the new 19" wheel option and all the toys.

I am a little upset with myself as I can't seem to control the little 10 year old boy in me. I mean it's only a car for G&£s sake, or so I keep telling myself.

I find myself always on this forum and to and from Youtube looking at video clips of the car which go a llittle to sooth my urges. I mean I feel like when I was 10 getting my first Daisy BB gun. I knew I was getting it a month before but damn that was the longest month ever.

Do we ever grow up?

Has anybody else on here sufferd from this condition or am I just being rediculous and immature?:dk:

Normal Behaviour ?

Errrr... Yep - I think it is.
I'm sure someone will be along in a mo' to say otherwise, and it's only a car, but... each to their own.

And, you left out the weeks before placing the order, poring over the brochures, vacillating over colour choices, engine size, the dreaded options list........ :o

And , as to being 34 years old and therefore one should be past all that... well, I can attest that it still happens to guys nearer 60 than 50 !

Hmm.... lets not even go there.....

The whole thing is made worse by the fact that I have sold my car and now am using my wifes Ford C-max 1.8 petrol in the mean time. Nice little car really but has no guts at all. I feel that I would be better off getting out and pushing. I am even afraid to perve at ladies at the traffic lights in case they look back and laugh their heads off.

Yep - its normal.

I am about the same age and am thinking of an S55 AMG, i haven't even ordered it yet, but I am daydreaming about it...hehe!

The Options List - and 'Er Indoors...

PS…
A bit more on the dreaded options list…..

GTIone, did your conversation with Mrs GTIone go something like
" I think we should change the car, Daaarling. I fancy one of those ……. (insert car of choice) – Look, they’re only £xxxxx. That’s pretty good, really."

After a bit of wheedling over a few weeks, she finally gives in. So you start to look at the options price list properly…..

"Well, tick that one, that’s a handy thing to have/ can’t do without it"
"Tick that one , that’s just a cool thing to have"
"Oh, and MUST tick that one too, it’ll be better when it comes to sell it"
Etc, etc.

Than you look at the current total with these must-haves…
"HOW Much ??? Oh Sh1t, what am I going to tell her ????"

So, GTIone, own up - did you :

a). 'Fess up and face the music ?
b). Put absolutely everything on it, tell her how much, wait until she calms down a bit, then knock off the few bits you didn’t want anyway to make it sound more reasonable ?
or c). say nowt, and figure by the time she finds out, you’ve got the car anyway ?

Re option c. My choice. It can work OK – but you have to be prepared for no dinner on the table (or two carefully arranged lettuce leaves, which is the same thing), because she’s got the hump, or says we can’t afford food anymore. :(

But hey – look on the bright side !
If you get the hard-up tale and no dinner on the table, you can always go out for a drive in the car instead ! :D:D

Result !

Hehehe.... A little bit of all of the above really. My car allowance covers most of it and I use the word "most" lightly.

Damn we are are the same ;)

Some people are emotional about their car(s), I find you are over emotional, seek psychiatric help if you still don't understand and control yourself.

Ah being try to control myself but here I am again.... lol

Youve left out the important bit where you pick up the car ( MB will look after you both realy well) and have a nice holiday on the way back for a few days!

Take some good music on CD or iPod and I recommend either Van Morrisons "Mama told me there'd be days like this" or Mat Monro's "days like this" from the Italian job... its worth it!!

Ive done it twice now from Singlefingen and Bremen, both time managing to take in splendid wine country which in September will be magnificent:)

Where are you collecting yours from?

Totally normal behavior for someone equipped with testicles. Women behave the same way about shoes bizarrely.

Collecting from Bremen however will be driving straight home. Ipod already loaded with some road trax but add your additions. Do you have any recomendations for the trip back that might not be to far of the beaten track?

Not if you are in a hurry

I went south on the Romantique road ( google it) into the Moselle area and then up thru France

Your best bet is via Amsterdam or Brugge ( recommended). They still give you 2 nights stopover dont they?:dk:

Youve read this of course

Mercedes-Benz UK - Personal Collection - How it works

Ive just read it and it seems theyve reduced the offering since I went

mine included

Limo from MB dealer to Heathrow ( my blag!)
Business class for two:bannana:
Pickup and hotel...no limit on the meal ( I was within reason I suppose not having TOOO much wine)
Factory visit which was personal..just the 2 of us and an Irish/German guide:eek:
Collection centre
On my way with vouchers for 2 nights hotels for 2 people; at one Hotel the owner even parked my car in his own private gated area:thumb:
Channel Crossing - tunnel
