Orite guys, been after another Merc since i sold my C320, always fancied a 190e Cosworth but always sh*t out at the last minute worrying about maintenance cost etc if something went wrong.

Spotted this on ebay

Mercedes 190E 1989 'G' | eBay

Obviously thats the best of both worlds, got the looks of a cossie but with a standard 2.0 engine. And its the best colour.

It does look very clean, but is it really worth £3500? Just dont think i can justify that for it when i look at other Mercs that are out there for that price.

Thoughts?

There's a very nice looking blue 190E 2.0 auto currently on sale on Mercedes 190e for £1500. Chap selling his father's long-time pride and joy.

Nice car but overpriced. You also have to ask why he's selling it after 6 months.

To help with a house purchase apparently.

it made £2250 on ebay auction so you have to say that's it true value? (give or take)

Hm...I think it has been re-listed because whoever bid £2250 didn't cough up, or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

It didn't make reserve.
Didn't come close to his buy it now either.

Rare to see one with Tex
"MBTEX, sometimes called "Taxi Leather" is a vinyl-like Leather-looking synthetic material that has been commonly used in Mercedes-Benz Vehicles for many years now. MBTEX is a a sort of rubbery-feeling material that has a grained look similar to leather but usually more uniform than leather. To the unknowing passenger (and sometimes owners) MBTEX is actually what you are sitting on, and not actually real leather.

In many newer Mercedes-Benz models "MBTEX with Leather inserts" is the standard equipment. Full leather is often an option and not included without an additional cost. Many Mercedes-Benz owners have probably bought their car not realizing that the seats are not full leather.

MBTEX can be very difficult to tell from Leather, as without really close inspection there is not a real "obvious" difference. Most cars that are sold with "MBTEX with Leather inserts" have the center parts of the seats (the parts you sit on and your back rests against) as real leather, and the seat bolsters, sides, headrests, armrests and seat backs as MBTEX. You can often tell the parts of your seats that are real leather as they are usually perforated (the perforation is necessary in order to allow the leather to "breath"). This real leather is often the panels where your bottom sits and where your back rests against the seat. There is also often sections of real leather on the panels. Everything else is usually MBTEX, unless you got the full leather option of course.

Many dealers and people who are familiar with MBTEX will actually recommend it over Leather. It is commonly joked that you can tell if a 10 year old car has leather or MBTEX. The car with MBTEX interior will still look new while the car with leather will look worn. MBTEX is much more durable than leather, easier to clean and requires less attention. MBTEX is also a good idea to have on the seat bolsters as this is an area that is commonly worked well by drivers and passengers entering and exiting the vehicle. Leather bolsters will eventually crease and these creases over time develop into cracks. MBTEX does not have this crease problem.

MBTEX will outlast leather many times over and most individuals can not tell its difference from leather. MBTEX is an excellent choice for anyone who has children, or plans on owning their Mercedes-Benz for a long time."

Didn't sell for £3500; didn't make reserve at £2250 bid; the obvious thing is to put it back on at the original price. Anybody want to bet that it will sell this time? Thought not.

We've all met, dealt with and walked away from obstinate, pig-headed sellers like him, haven't we? They KNOW what something is worth... Same sort of people you find running stalls at autojumbles and boot fairs, who, when you make a realistic offer for whatever quite ordinary item they have that you want, ask for twice what it's worth, adding that rather than accept your derisory and insulting offer, they'd rather take it home; which is exactly what they do.

And if by chance the seller reads this: GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD THAT IT'S NOT WORTH THAT MUCH, SUNSHINE. IT'S ONLY WORTH WHAT SOMEBODY WILL PAY FOR IT!

Don't take it personally, it's just business.

But by the same token, if he put it up for sale for £10k, what would it matter to you?

Judging by your post, you are one of those people that informs sellers that so-and-so down the road is selling one cheaper, well if they are; go and buy that one then...

Be careful on ebay - most ads are from dodgy dealers looking for mug punters - use autotrader as a guide to prices as well as parkers and pump the reg into webuyanycar that will come up with a low low price cos theyre after mug sellers and if your daft enough to go and see them they will try to knock even more off

Don't know why the post repeated; probably finger trouble on my part, though.

Scott, SPX, I'm one of those people who are irritated by pig-headed stupidity.* That's why.

*unless it's mine, obviously.
