Is this tapping noise normal on M157?

Went to see an E63 today, looking to replace the Hemi with an additional AMG car. Upon inspection, it sounded very tappy. Is this noise normal on start up? It's cover just around 41k miles. Naturally, my instinct told me to walk away which I did. I have seen one earlier this year, it sounded much quieter and covered more miles.

In the video, you can hear a slight grinding noise, was thinking perhaps it needs the ancillary pulleys replaced, which is a service item, nothing major or water pump?

Could a local Mercedes independent specialist inspect the car for you pre-potential purchase?

For peace of mind I'll move onto the next one, everything on the car was spot on though in terms of paint work and interior. It had the massage controller feature on the side of the seat bolster which is a bonus to have and the colour was nice too.

I'll need to see a few more, will no doubt become familiar with the characteristics.

Did you check the oil level? If it's anything like the M156 they don't like being less than to the top marker, especially sat around not being used.

Too noisy unless it's the video, mine has just clicked 60k and much quieter than that.
How old was the car? - early cars had split link timing chains and those were noisy !

It has the later solid links, the noise did sound more mechanical, no dash check engine lights or low level oil or water. The ticking noise was continuous, it didn't dampen after a warm up. What bothered me was the slight intermittent grinding noise, hence the thoughts on bearings i.e. service pulleys or water pump.

Car was indoors inside an industrial unit.
It's probably fine if that was recorded inside. Try to listen to it out in the open.
They aren't the quietest of engines, but shouldn't rattle.
Mine wasn't noisy.

You should have bought mine. 36k miles and sold for less than the asking price of that one.
Had a good map on it too.

A friend did a check for me, there is a large gap in MOT 😳. Staying clear of this one.

It does not sound right :(.

My CLS63 Estate with the same engine and twice as many miles is a waaayyy quieter.

Regular maintenance with ceramic additives should help the engine and its components to run efficiently (and issue free).

Your correct there buddy, I have now had the opportunity to view several and have a couple more to see too. That one above is not right, I'm glad I walked walked away. I remember glancing at their computer screen, it had about 7 people before me who had viewed it. There is a massive gap in no MOT too. Anyways, seen better ones out there.

Does your car have the original or revised/improved timing chain though?
