Issues with ECO on E estate

Btw, fuel economy is amazing. I recently did a 2,200km trip and used less than 3 tanks. Left home on a full tank (90L, $105 CDN) and had to fill up again after 8 hrs. We went 850km on a single tank, I was so impressed. ...and that was hitting 185km/h on some straight stretches...:). New vehicle too...only 2,500km on the clock

That's about 27mpg (UK gallons) assuming 850km was 90 litres of fuel.

I had an ML300 cdi Sport that would average 29mpg. So your figures a absolutely marvelous.

I imagine day to day driving though is closer to 15 - 18 mpg.

Lots of reasons for it to to catch you out.
Mine wasn't working yesterday. Turned out that I had turned the airflow to the screen (aircon off) and this also disables it :/

Steaming the windows up were you Ted? ;)

I wish. Just the relative humidity and my stinginess in not cooling the air first to remove the moisture.

Yup, used almost the full tank, but there was probably an 1/8 left when we filled up again. Could have gone probably another 30-50km but couldn't chance it when driving between cities on a road trip.

15-18 sounds about right for the city but it's too early to tell since we don't have enough mileage on it yet.
...and the Renntech tune I threw on it is not helping me keep the ECO mode activated! Huge difference in power though.

There's logic in both - could be to do with battery charge (short journeys) or internal temp deviation (a/c).

Thanks. I took it for a short 15m trip yesterday and, again, the system worked perfectly fine with A/C full on. after 1,800m on the clock, the problem seems now to have been resolved... Strange really! :dk:

I'm not sure if it helps but there was a thread a few months ago which suggested a recent batch fault with one of the battery sensors on the W204 so may be relevant if they use the same parts.

Interesting. I will check with my local dealer. :thumb:

Mine went in for that - but I was finding extended periods of failure - sometimes 2-3 days at a time.

Battery temp sensor is a known issue to Mercedes Technical but it would cause a bigger drop out.
