Actually it was worse than that... It was a complete whiteout when I looked out the window this morning.

My wife's car is playing up a bit at the moment so until its sorted she's decided to pinch my CE.

I knew this was a *really* bad thing as I now have to commute 50 miles on a motorcycle. Jeepers it was cold out there, the visor kept steaming up so I had to ride the whole journey with it open and by the time I was getting close to work, my lower jaw was almost frozen solid. My saliva was begining to turn into ice crystals and I had a headache from hell. Fingers? What fingers... I half expected to remove my gloves to find I had stumps on the end of my hands... not fun trying to keep things right side up on icy roads when your once dextrous digits have the same amount of feel and control as they would shortly after been struck by a lump hammer.

Oh joy, In a little over an hours time I have to ride home again. :(

aaaw - you have my complete sympathy. Who'd want to ride a bike in this temperature :(

I once had to go walkies in Moscow in daytime temperature of -26c . The only exposed part was my nose and I could feel it freezing up every time I breathed in. It was for a business meeting and the office was not exactly next to the metro station (500m). You have my sympathies.

Just don't rub your nose. That cracking noise is the sound of breaking blood vessels in your nose.

we have had less than 10m visibilty all day today!!! and i hear blizzards are on thier way by the end of the week!

Would heated grips slow you down too much? :D

I know what it's like. My GF's car heater stopped kicking out heat last week - complete sods law with the weather. I found out putting some coolant in the thing helps everything function better :o

Weather like this I gloat so much as I pull my car out the garage ready to roll - why o why do all my neighbours insist on keeping 20 years worth of rubbish, their tumble dryer, a 3rd fridge freezer and god knows what else in their garage instead of their cars?

glorious day here, in the sun it was nice and warm, even nice enough to sit outside the pub on the seafront for a couple of pints at lunchtime :)

Going to remain cold here in the east - maybe light snow Thu/Fri (got those 2 days off work anyway :D!). Been hat+gloves weather for a few workdays now anyway. Looks like that early hard winter has set in. Not officially winter for another month as well. Remember how important a hat is because you lose around 80% of the heat through the top of your head do you not?

Don't forget www.metcheck.com - I swear by it.

I work in leatherhead and that place is so cold, barely got above freezing for most of the day. Last week I had the joy of having to scape ice of the windows both in the morning before my trek to work and again to do my trek home.

I want the remote heating option!!!

A little while back when I was riding every day (the only way to get around Southampton without spending half your life in traffic), at this time of year I was very grateful for the large handguards and heated grips to keep the hands warm, and the huge fairing to hide behind. Made all the difference when the weather turned bad, meant I could wear summer gloves and not have my breath turn to ice :)

Ironically, I dragged it out yesterday over 3 years after parking it in the back of the garage, stuck a new battery on it and it started first time. Time to put it on sale!

I was busy today :p ,Outside for most of the day,6 hours actually,Taking the boat up the canal in thick fog, breaking the ice with the bow as we went.Made some wierd noises as it broke the ice.My feet were soaked and it was cold doing the locks.Travelled about 4 miles Thought we would never get to where we were going but just made it with about 15 mins to spare before it got too dark. All good fun tho :D

Try standing perched at the top of a telegraph pole for half an hour in snowy, windy conditions-that makes your fingers reallly blue. Plus I can only wear fingerless 'tramp' gloves otherwise I cant work on the wires, mind you, once there blue you can feel nowt! Roll on summer :)

Sweating in singlet eating ice-cream.

I do sympathise with you Spike. Being cold is no fun and can be dangerous. I spent a number of winters in a place called Bardafoss, 200 miles inside the arctic circle, living in a tent ( not your normal tent I must admit ). Its a dry cold there and you dont notice it till its too late.

Spike, would you be interested in a heated kidney belt that I have left over from my biking days?
